For the first time, fans of Black Ops 1 and 2 can play the classics on PlayStation 5. For XBOX players, this feels like getting the short end of the stick.

XBOX players are unhappy for several reasons. Firstly, the games are over a decade old. Released on XBOX 360, they were only available on XBOX via backwards compatibility.

The PS5 did not have these titles until recently. Now that they're out on Sony's console, they have a better resolution and relatively more secure servers. Naturally, some XBOX players feel abandoned.

This is because backwards compatibility does not bring the game up to modern standards. A brand new port, however, can improve the game's quality to some extent

The games became instant hits on PS5, surpassing even GTA 6 in terms of the trending games charts. In fact, Black Ops 1 became the #1 trending game, with BO2 trailing behind at #2.

According to a report by Vice, this has left XBOX fans frustrated because the games appear to be more enhanced on Sony's platform.

Windows Central's Jez Corden also responded to a fan, saying, "I mean they're genuinely exclusive offering better resolution and more secure servers."

Meanwhile, XBOX players must simply play the games via backwards compatibility. This means enjoying roughly the same version released on XBOX 360 years ago.

Some fans complained that the lobbies are full of cheaters and modders, which has spoiled the experience.

PlayStation players getting arguably the better port may make some feel like they're being left out of an experience that should rightfully be theirs.

Windows Central's Jez Corden reported on the games' porting to PS5 and PS4 on July 12, 2026. Fans gathered in the comment section of the journalist's X post to voice their opinions, and many were angry at XBOX.

One fan noted that XBOX has yet to fix the hacking issue on their own platform "Nice to see Xbox looking after their own You’d think they’d sort out that issue for their user base before releasing this on the competitions box"

Yet another fan found it ridiculous that PS5 gets the better port, "It’s ridiculous that Xbox didn’t get the same version. I don’t see why they couldn’t have brought this port over"

One user believed that the game should have been remastered altogether "Should have been remasters instead of lazy ports. 1080p on PS5 for 14 year old games is shocking. Obviously no Xbox version is even worse when the 360 versions are 600p."

Overall, some fans appear quite upset over PlayStation getting the better resolution, servers, and security.
