Rockstar Games finally opened GTA 6 pre-orders. But the game's $79.99 Standard Edition and $99.99 Ultimate Edition price tags have left many players thinking twice. While most fans are deciding which edition to buy, a handful of XBOX users have found a different route altogether.
Those fans have managed to pre-order GTA 6 without spending a single penny. They did that by saving Microsoft Rewards points for months and, in some cases, years. Community posts on Reddit and other social media have shown how Microsoft's loyalty program can effectively cover the cost of this huge release.
A Reddit user known as CarolinaKing704 revealed that they had been saving Microsoft Rewards points for nearly three years. They eventually managed to use those points to pre-order the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition.

Another user, nachoint, shared a receipt showing their purchase after redeeming around 98,000 Microsoft Rewards points on r/GTA6.
They joked that Rockstar's repeated delays gave them enough extra time to build their balance. Since then, several posts have gone viral, and many fans have reportedly followed this strategy.
Now, the exact number of points needed to cover the whole $99.99 Ultimate Edition varies by market. Some users reportedly needed roughly 98,000 points.
On the other hand, some needed 100,000 to 110,000 points. Irrespective of the figure, reaching that milestone is about sheer dedication.
How Microsoft Rewards works for GTA 6 purchases
The whole process doesn't involve any loopholes or exploits, nor does it have any hidden catches. Microsoft Rewards is a free loyalty program that gives users points for engaging with Microsoft's services and activities.
These activities include Bing searches, Microsoft Edge usage, quizzes, XBOX Game Pass quests, Microsoft Store purchases, and other promotional tasks.
After accumulating those points, players can redeem them for XBOX Store credit or XBOX gift cards. Those, in turn, can be used for digital purchases like GTA 6.
Players might be jumping with joy at the prospect of getting the game for free. However, they should keep in mind that earning enough points for a full $100 redemption is a long-term commitment.
As the game is still months away from release, players will have plenty of time to gather reward points.
Even if they don't manage to cover the whole cost, redeeming lower-value gift cards can reduce the overall purchase price.
