Xbox decided to showcase competitive brands' logos at the Xbox Games Showcase event to provide greater transparency regarding their multi-platform release strategy.
However, the move has drawn the ire of hardcore fans, with many criticizing the company for not focusing on its own platform, at least for the Showcase.
This led Xbox CEO Asha Sharma to respond to the backlash received over platforming competitors, especially at an event that is supposed to be an exclusive look.
Replying to gaming expert Klobrille's X post, Sharma said, "Seeing the feedback on logos. It was a miss, and I own it. We are talking about how we adjust for future XBOX shows."
The gaming community seems to be divided on this topic. Some point out that the whole agenda of the Xbox Games Showcase is to be an exclusive event.
However, there are others who believe that if a game is releasing on other platforms along with Xbox, there is no harm in showing that fact during the event.
In fact, they consider that to be a better approach than pretending as though it were an exclusive title for Xbox.
Asha Sharma's era has been widely positive, with even initial negativity changing rapidly. The new CEO has shown a penchant for wise decisions through her initial few months, and even the harshest critics have showered praise on Microsoft's move to hire her.
In fact, Sharma's tendency to be very vocal and interactive on social media has helped the console giant's reputation massively, with many liking her new hands-on user-first approach.
Why Can Showing Competitor Logos Be A Positive for Xbox?
Some members of the gaming community worry that Xbox might slowly become a publisher and take the SEGA route instead of being a hardware-first gaming company.
But Sharma's promise to develop and build upon the hardware R&D has pacified those concerned fans for now.
In fact, Xbox can use this entire controversy to its advantage. Other platforms don't usually show the competitor logos during their Showcase events.
By doing the opposite, Xbox can show it isn't afraid of the narrative that competitors exist, and that it isn't trying to hide anything. Transparency and honesty are two virtues gamers like, and Xbox can play into it by doing exactly what they are being criticized for.
Microsoft needs every little positive it can after the underwhelming revenues from its gaming vertical. And CEO Asha Sharma looks like someone who can deliver on it.
