Valorant's April 1 Patch Has Everyone Talking

Valorant players expected Patch 12.06 to be a standard update, but some outrageous additions caught them off guard.
From a sudden shift to third-person gameplay to a sniper that disconnects enemies, this patch looked like it would change the game entirely.
However, it didn’t take long for confusion to turn into laughter. Fans quickly realized changes like these would never come to Valorant, and the patch notes themselves revealed the truth. It was actually an early April Fools’ joke.
The fake changes were intentionally absurd. The update introduced a new initiator named Brainrot, who uses its “Cringe” abilities through voice comms.
Cringe instantly eliminates enemies after three stacks. The more vocal a player is, the more stacks they can apply. However, missing more than three abilities would eliminate the player instead.
A new sniper rifle called the Hackerator could have changed the meta. This powerful one-shot weapon not only takes down an enemy, but a headshot would also disconnect them from the game. Meanwhile, the addition of prone mechanics and maps filled with tall grass made it feel like Valorant was turning into PUBG.
However, the biggest highlight of the April Fools’ patch was the transition from a first-person shooter to a third-person POV, though it won’t actually be happening.
Tejo mains might have jumped from their seats seeing this patch. It jokingly added “an endless barrage of artillery” to his kit, meaning unlimited Guided Salvo charges with no distance limit.
There are a few real updates in Patch 12.06. Riot has introduced balance changes to Waylay and Viper, UI tweaks, visual updates, and more in this patch.
Fans went into a frenzy over the Valorant Patch 12.06
Riot Games pulls something like this almost every year, dropping joke updates that catch players off guard.
The April Fools' patch was convincing enough that players believed the bizarre updates were real. Even after they realized it was a joke, fans couldn't stop talking about it:
One fan reacted, "D******** it’s still the 31st. You’d think a Canadian account would know that."
Another fan went on with, "Valorant switching to third person on April 1st is the most Riot Games thing ive ever seen."
This fan said, "Each sentence slowly was putting me into a coma."
