Minecraft is a game that has withstood the test of time. Alongside Roblox, Minecraft remains one of the most-played legacy games to date, continuing to attract players across multiple generations.
Over nearly two decades, the game has introduced a wide range of memorable characters, from iconic mobs to legendary fan-favorite figures. But which ones have become the most popular among the community?
Here are ten Minecraft characters ranked based on their popularity.
Creeper
As popular as it is annoying to deal with, the Creeper has gone mainstream. Even non-Minecraft players now know what a Creeper is, and many know how it functions.
Almost the unofficial mascot of Minecraft for the longest time before the Minecraft movie unleashed the Chicken Jockey, the Creeper remains iconic. Every Minecraft user, no matter how experienced, will have a story about their Creeper encounters.
It is reportedly the second most-searched Minecraft mob on Google, behind only the Enderman.
Villager
All Minecraft fans and gamers are now used to the "Hmmph" sound, and some may even have had nightmares involving it. The iconic Villager sound is not the only thing making Villagers popular.
The fact that Villagers allow you to trade for upgrades, progress faster in Minecraft, and play so many crucial roles in the Minecraft world also contributes to their popularity.
Also, Villagers can give rise to hostile mobs such as Illagers, Witches, and more. Villagers are the NPCs at the core of the game and deserve all the hype they get.
Ender Dragon

The be-all and end-all of Minecraft, the Ender Dragon is the final boss of the game and, as such, is heavily popular.
The entire bedrock of speedrunning is to try to eliminate the Ender Dragon as fast as possible after the world is generated, and the Ender Dragon is seen as the torchbearer of a Minecraft user finally leveling up and completing the game.
The Ender Dragon is the validation that every Minecraft user seeks after hours of toiling in-game.
Steve
The protagonist of the Minecraft world, Steve was the first player character added to the game and, as such, is the central figure in the game's universe. While Alex has since been added, Steve has transcended Minecraft and was even added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, increasing his popularity.
With the Minecraft movie having been released, Steve's popularity has only gone up, especially with Jack Black playing the character in the movie.
Alex
Alex was later introduced as an alternate default character skin in Minecraft. However, there has been a push to make Alex more prominent through the movie.
In the Minecraft movie sequel, Alex is supposed to be a core character alongside Steve, just like in the game's universe. With Kirsten Dunst set to portray the character in the sequel, Alex's popularity is set to receive a windfall.

The Slenderman of the Minecraft world, Enderman not only gains popularity through the Slenderman lore in real life but also through its peculiar behavior in the game.
A figure so menacing that you want to avoid looking it in the eye, Enderman's teleportation ability adds to its mystery in the game.
Herobrine
A cult legend that even Minecraft played into, Herobrine could be about to set the Minecraft movie universe ablaze, as per rumors.
That aside, Herobrine is the most famous fan-made myth in the Minecraft universe. So much so that Minecraft added a special note in one of its updates, a canon event that could open the universe to far-reaching implications, especially if the movie universe adapts the lore, perhaps in its own way.
Chicken

Quite possibly, the Chicken can be higher up the order after the Minecraft movie. While the Chicken is one of the most popular and commonly found animals in the Minecraft world, the Chicken Jockey meme in the movie catapulted it into stardom.
The baby Zombie riding a Chicken (Chicken Jockey) is the best mob combination we have seen so far, and the Chicken's lore can be further accentuated depending on how the meme grows and is adapted further in the Minecraft universe.
Skeleton
The first mob that is actually scary, the Skeleton is menacingly accurate with its arrows. To add to it, some Skeletons can spawn with enchanted bows, thus dealing additional damage.
Skeletons make Creepers look like amateurs when it comes to annoying users who just want to mind their own business in the game.
Bee
The Bee update immediately added a massively popular mob to the game: Bees. Adorably designed, Bees can be used to farm and collect honey, and their wholesomeness just adds a new layer to the entire Minecraft experience.
However, users know fully well that harming Bees can turn out to be a fatal error. The Bees brought forth a flurry of fan-made memes, fan art, plushies, and more, which has seen the newly added mob become an instant favorite.
