Pokémon is usually all about colorful adventures, cute companions, and becoming the very best. Then you start reading Pokédex entries or taking a closer look at certain designs. That's when you understand that the franchise is beyond kid-friendly experiences.
Be it living nightmares, possessed dolls, creatures that hijack bodies, or stalk people in the dark, there are some Pokémon you would never want to see. Here are 10 of those:
10. Parasect
Parasect looks unsettling. But its backstory is what really makes things more unsettling. According to Pokédex lore, the fungus completely takes over Parasect's body and mind.
This leaves the original Pokémon as nothing more than a lifeless host. And that's when those blank white eyes suddenly start making a lot more sense. Parasect is just a walking zombie controlled by a parasite.
9. Hypno
You know a Pokémon is creepy when one of its official Pokédex entries mentions luring a child. Hypno uses its pendulum to put victims into a deep sleep.

And after that, it starts feeding on their dreams. But that's only the part of the horror story. As per descriptions in several games, this Pokémon lures away people, especially those having pleasant dreams. Remember, our parents warned us about bedtime monsters?
8. Guzzlord
Whenever you see Guzzlord, you mind screams "run." This creature is over 18 feet tall with a gigantic mouth replacing most of its body.
That's why this Ultra Beast looks more like a movie monster than a Pokémon. Its endless appetite makes things even worse as it can devour entire buildings and mountains. And the strange part is that nobody knows where everything goes.
7. Banette
Imagine you thrown your favorite stuffed toy away. But some of it has come back years later looking for revenge. That's what Banette's story might look like. This Ghost-type is born from a discarded doll filled with resentment. It spends its existence searching for the person who abandoned it. It can even use its own body like a voodoo doll, hurting itself to inflict pain on someone else. That's nightmare fuel in every sense.
6. Mimikyu
Mimikyu looks very adorable in its homemade Pikachu costume. But things get completely dark when you get to know why it never removes that disguise.

The secret is that anyone who sees its real appearance is overwhelmed with terror. Some versions even imply death. This Pokémon has to be the "don't look under the sheet" version in the franchise.
5. Darkrai
Darkrai doesn't scare people with claws or fangs. It attacks when you're asleep. This Mythical Pokémon can trap victims in relentless nightmares. Although its actions aren't always intentional, the result still comes out to be the same. Waking up sweating after a horrible dream is bad enough. Imagine knowing Darkrai might still be standing nearby when you open your eyes.
4. Froslass
There's something strangely eerie about how calm Froslass looks. This Ice and Ghost-type is inspired by Japanese ghost folklore and quietly freezes people solid. Its Pokédex says it displays frozen victims like collectibles. The elegant appearance tricks you into lowering your guard. That means you might become a showpiece as well.
3. Yamask
Most Ghost-type Pokémon have strange and dark origins. But Yamask's story is actually depressing. As per the Pokédex, every Yamask was once a human. Its former face is the mask it carries. And it occassionally cries looking at the mask. That's why it doesn't feel like catching a Pokémon. It feels like meeting a trapped soul that never truly moved on.
2. Araquanid
Giant spiders weren't enough. That's why Araquanid adds drowning to the equation. This massive Water and Bug-type traps prey inside the huge water bubble covering its head.

This leaves them unable to escape until being finished off by Araquanid itself. What might trigger your nightmares is watching that oversized bubble slowly close around you. And things become unbearable if spiders already make your skin crawl.
1. Cofagrigus
Walking into an ancient coffin sounds like a terrible idea. And Cofagrigus proves exactly why. This Ghost-type lures unsuspecting victims close and then traps them inside its golden body. After that, comes the most terrifying part. Cofagrigus then drains their life force and turns them into mummies.
Which of these creepy Pokémon disturbed you the most? Let us know in the comments.
