10 Minecraft Crafting Recipes Everyone Should Know

Minecraft can be broken into two words: 'mine' and 'craft'. Players mine materials and scarce resources from the biome and use them to craft items that aid survival.

Crafting is at the very core of every type of Minecraft gameplay. And while players can always refer to the list of recipes available, it helps to know some crucial ones.

Here, we have compiled a list of 10 must-know crafting recipes.

10. Ladder

Vertical climbing can be quite an effort. Ladders make it easier and are much more efficient than stairs or climbing by block progression using dirt blocks or other scrap blocks.

Also, Ladders make navigating inside lavish multi-storied Minecraft houses faster. A Ladder helps build block generators, creates a breathable pocket underwater, and has other use cases.

Perhaps the easiest way to remember the crafting recipe for a ladder is that it resembles the letter H. Place 3 sticks in the left slot, 3 in the right slot, and one in the middle of the central slot to craft 3 ladders.

9. Map

It's easy to wander around the Minecraft biomes and get lost in its vastness. Maps help players find their way without too much trouble.

Players need to keep an active map in hand, and it keeps on filling as they tread along the biome.

To craft an empty map, players need to fill all 9 slots with paper. However, they can also craft an empty locator map by placing 8 papers in a ring around 1 Compass placed in the middle of all the slots.

While an empty map only shows the terrain, the empty locator map also shows players' positions and a white pointer.

8. Recovery Compass

Unless you are playing the game in Hardcore mode, Recovery Compass is almost a necessity. Every time players respawn, they lose all the items in the position where they fell.

Players can craft a Recovery Compass by placing 8 Echo Shards around a Compass placed in the middle of all slots.

7. Respawn Anchor

Players need 6 Crying Obsidian and 3 Glowstone Blocks to craft a Respawn Anchor. Fill the top and bottom rows with Crying Obisidan and the central row with the Glowstone Blocks.

Once crafted, place it and use a Glowstone Block to charge it. Once charged, right-click the anchor with the empty hand to set a spawn point. The Respawn Anchor holds 4 charges and uses one charge every time players respawn.

6. Loom

Place 2 strings in the top-left and the top-middle slots, and 2 wood planks directly underneath them to craft a Loom. Looms add color to the Minecraft world and give players an option to decorate their surroundings the way they want.

Players can create Banner Patterns by adding 1 Dye and 1 Banner into a Loom. The Loom can draw an unemployed villager, turning him into a Shepherd, who can come in handy in trading wool for emeralds.

5. Powered Rails

Place 3 Gold Ingots each in the left and the right column, a stick in the central slot, and Redstone Dust in the bottom-middle slot to craft 6 Powered Rails.

Standard rails only enable rolling, whereas Powered Rails also provide the engine power to create an entire transport system. Use Powered Rails to provide acceleration to the minecarts, creating long-drawn transport systems, and perhaps, even a rollercoaster.

4. Shield

Perhaps the most important survival item in Minecraft, a Shield protects you from all incoming harm. Even when a Creeper comes near and explodes, the Shield absorbs damage.

Players need 6 wood planks and 1 Iron Ingot to create a shield. Place the Iron Ingot in the centre of the top row, with wood planks on either side. Fill up the central row with wood planks, and place the last wood plank in the centre of the bottom row to craft a Shield.

3. Enchanting Table

An Enchanting Table is the key to opening a door of enormous possibilities. Enchanting Tables can be used to create enchantments that can enhance the Minecraft journey.

Players can use enchantments to add buffs to themselves or increase the effectiveness of their weapons, or even add special effects that can enable them to do other tasks.

Creating an enchantment table requires a deep journey into the Nether. Players need 4 Obsidian, 2 Diamonds, and 1 Book to craft an enchantment table.

Fill the bottom row with Obsidian, place the Book in the center of the top row, and place the remaining Obsidian in the center of the middle row, with one Diamond on either side of it to craft the enchantment table.

2. Golden Apple

What if food could not only heal players fast but also grant them extra hearts that act as damage absorbers before any attack deals actual damage to the players' health bars?

Golden Apple does just that. While it grants Regeneration II effects on players consuming it, the best use case for a Golden Apple is that it can cure Zombie Villagers, which can get players extra discounts in trading deals.

Crafting a Golden Apple is easy. Place an Apple at the heart of the entire 3x3 crafting space, and surround it with 8 Gold Ingots to craft a Golden Apple. Players can craft a Golden Carrot the same way.

1. Leads

Leads help players transport mobs efficiently. Right-clicking any passive mob will tether them to players, and the mobs will then follow the players, even through water and uphill.

Players need 4 strings and 1 Slimeball to craft 2 leads at once. Place the items in the following manner to craft the leads.

Top Row: String, String, Empty

Middle Row: String, Slimeball, Empty

Bottom Row: Empty, Empty, String
