The streaming industry has exploded in the last decade or so. From big platforms like Facebook getting into the industry to streamers being offered multi-million-dollar exclusivity deals, playing games live to a virtual audience is almost a mainstream career choice now.
Direct viewer donations often represent the largest revenue stream for professional gamers.
Let's look at the biggest donations ever seen in the streaming world.
PashaBiceps - $15,000 (CSGO)
A stalwart of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) scene, PashaBiceps (Jarosław Jarząbkowski) received a massive $15,000 donation from the fabled donor motar2k while streaming CSGO.
PashaBiceps is also known for his famous phrase, "You're not my friend. You're my brother, my friend."
The money, as he said, helped him pay for his house.
SpaceLyon - $30,000 (Fortnite)
Thang Phan was playing Fortnite when the donation notification popped up. SpaceLyon was one of the best Fortnite players during his time at FaZe Clan and was known for his humble personality.
The $30,000 donation was actually part of a YouTube video idea by MrBeast, with the video titled "I Donated $30,000 To A Random Twitch Streamer (World Record)," released later.
The figure was a world record at the time and left SpaceLyon visibly stunned.
Azael - $30,000 (World of Warcraft)
Like motar2k, Amhai is also notorious for his huge random donations on streaming platforms. The one on the receiving end this time was Azael (Isaac Cummings-Bentley), a League of Legends enthusiast who is also an LCS caster right now.
Azael had a modest following but was always really thankful for the support shown by his fanbase. That moved Amhai, resulting in the $30,000 donation.
CohhCarnage - $32,000 (Everspace 2)
During his charity marathon for the Gaming Community Expo (GCX), supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in June 2020, streamer CohhCarnage had a four-hour slot.
While he was playing early access Everspace 2 live for his viewers, a user named "zretch" sent a $32,000 donation along with another $30,000 donation during his slot. In fact, CohhCarnage managed to raise over $230,000 during his four hours of streaming.
Ninja - $50,000 (Fortnite)
During a charity stream in 2018, Twitch streamer and Fortnite pro Ninja set multiple donation goals. While Ninja was playing Fortnite, MrBeast started a donation chain based on his live performance in the game, giving him goals to hit.
MrBeast sent in a single $50,000 donation to make things harder for Ninja, which triggered an enthusiastic reaction from Tyler Blevins.
Sodapoppin - $57,000 (World of Warcraft)
Amhai was on the scene once again. In the 2010s, Sodapoppin (Thomas Chance Morris) was an active World of Warcraft grinder and, just like his friend Azael, received generous donations from Amhai amounting to $57,000, featuring a single largest donation of $10,000.
ExoticChaotic - $75,000 (Fortnite)
This one is a record. ExoticChaotic received the single-largest non-charity donation in streaming history. While playing Fortnite on his stream, fellow streamer and friend KingMascot donated $75,000 through PayPal to help him through personal troubles.
LibertyofGaming - $80,000 (H1Z1)
This time, Amhai went for the Guinness World Records. The notorious donor dropped roughly $80,000 in Euros to streamer LibertyofGaming while he was playing H1Z1.
Ninja - $100,000 (Fortnite)
People suspect this donor to be Drake. However, this was an anonymous $100,000 donation from Ninja's GuardianCon charity marathon four-hour slot, with 100% of the proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The donation helped push the goal past $2.7 million. To this day, we still do not know who the anonymous donor was.
DrLupo - $1,000,000 (Fortnite)
Platforms also contribute to these massive totals. Twitch itself helped DrLupo during his 2019 charity stream for St. Jude, donating a massive sum of $1 million to the cause. This still stands as the single-largest sum gifted by anyone through the platform.
Honorable Mention: Jacksepticeye - $3,700,000 (Thankmas)
While Jacksepticeye received this massive $3.7 million tip via Tiltify, leaving him teary-eyed, it was during his Thankmas 2022 marathon and at a time when he was not playing video games on the marathon stream. Still, quite the sum to give away for a good cause.
Please note: Only standalone donations and cumulative donations from a single source were taken into account. Also, the donations received strictly while gaming are highlighted.
