Tekken 8 Review Bombed After Controversial New Season

Mar 30, 2026, 7:40 PM CUT

Tekken 8 was supposed to bounce back with Season 3, but things have only gotten worse. Instead of fixing past issues, the latest update has pushed players over the edge.

As things stand, the fighting game is now facing another wave of review bombing on Steam. Recent ratings have dropped to “Mostly Negative,” while the overall rating remains “Mixed.”

Just after Season 3 went live, hundreds of negative reviews have flooded in. Longtime players have suggested that the update has doubled down on the same problems that sparked outrage during Season 2.

The major complaint of this backlash revolves around balance. As per players' arguments, Tekken 8 now favors aggressive playstyles, whereas a defensive approach feels weaker. Matches often come down to constant pressure and risky 50/50 situations.

Several recent Steam reviews reflect that frustration clearly. Some fans feel the game is "no longer fun." Whereas others have called the developers "tone deaf" and accused them of “disrespecting the fanbase.”

Season 3 was marketed as a “back to basics” update. However, fans say it fails to deliver meaningful changes. Yes, tweaks were definitely there. But it lacked the solutions to the core issues from Season 2. Traditional defensive techniques still struggle, thanks to the heat system and offensive pressure.

For now, all eyes are on Bandai Namco on how it comes up with an appropriate response.

How will Bandai Namco respond to Tekken 8’s growing crisis?

The major concern is about the series of review bombs Tekken 8 has been facing in recent times. In 2024, the game was hugely criticized over monetization issues, including paid DLC and microtransactions.

Bandai Namco saved the day that time with compensation and improvements. But the current situation clearly proves that the developers utterly failed to deliver the latter.

As compared to previous backlash, the recent one is more critical. Player confidence appears to be at an all-time low, and Season 3 has only intensified concerns about the game’s direction.

This time, things are not going to get settled by just returning in-game currencies. Players want the core aspect of the game, which is 'balance,' to be fixed asap. And balance issues are far more complex than pricing decisions.

Fixing Tekken 8 will likely require deeper gameplay changes. Players want stronger defensive options, better movement mechanics, and a reduced reliance on constant offensive pressure.

Without these adjustments, the gap between developer vision and player expectations may continue to widen.
