Take-Two Issues Cease-and-Desist to GTA V Modding Platform

Take-Two Interactive issued a cease-and-desist to another modding platform. As Rockstar Games consolidates its multiplayer ecosystem under the FiveM banner, the transition marks the end of one of GTA V's longest-running community alternatives.

Tale-Two Interactive has taken action against the popular multiplayer modding platform, RAGE: Multiplayer. It allowed communities to host custom GTA V servers, among other things.

However, the Rage team announced they will begin a structured shutdown process. This comes after Rockstar Games and Take-Two made clear that FiveM is now the only authorized platform for GTA V multiplayer modding under the company’s Platform License Agreement.

Server owners have been advised to wind down operations and migrate to FiveM. The platform has confirmed that no new community servers will be accepted.

Public access to its server toolkit has already been discontinued. However, existing operators will retain access through the Server Manager during the transition period.

On June 1, 2026, the public server listing will go offline and become inaccessible. RAGE: MP has advised server owners to secure access and begin plans before then.

The final stage comes on August 31, 2026, when the RAGE: MP client, server toolkit, and backend infrastructure will all be shut down

Rockstar’s Relationship With GTA Multiplayer Modding Has Changed Over the Years

The terms between Rockstar and Take-Two with GTA multiplayer modding communities have always been on the rougher side.

Years ago, Take-Two had publicly opposed third-party multiplayer modification projects. The company even took action against FiveM during its early growth period.

That approach changed in 2023 when Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM. This acquisition brought one of the largest multiplayer modding ecosystems under official ownership.

Since then, FiveM has become Rockstar's official modding-based multiplayer platform. However, that's not the case with RAGE: MP.

And this is far from the first time Rockstar Take-Two has pursued this line of action. Just last year, in January, they forced the Liberty City Preservation Project to shut down.

After discussions with Rockstar and Take-Two, the developers of the total conversion mod shut down development and removed their links.
