Super Mario Bros Wonder Is Getting a Switch 2 Upgrade This Week With New Content

Nintendo is bringing back one of its recent hits with a new upgrade. Super Mario Bros Wonder is getting a Switch 2 version, and it is not just a visual upgrade.
This is also part of Nintendo’s bigger Switch 2 rollout in March, where Super Mario Bros Wonder is being used as one of the early games to show off the system.
Nintendo has already released version 1.1.0 for the game ahead of the upgrade, which is coming in March 2026.
The update sets things up for the Switch 2 Edition. It adds amiibo support and some gameplay changes across both systems. It also leans more into multiplayer, along with a few quality-of-life improvements.
On Switch 2, the update does more. It gives direct access to the upgrade pack through the eShop and adds Polish language support. It also prepares the game for the upcoming expansion, which will go live later this week. The Switch 2 version is also expected to run better, but Nintendo has not shared full details yet.
The Switch 2 Edition is where things actually change. Nintendo is not just releasing the same game again. It is adding a new area called Bellabel Park.
This area works more like a hub and is focused on multiplayer instead of just new levels.
It includes co-op challenges, competitive minigames, and different ways to play with friends, both locally and online. There are also modes like coin challenges and training missions.
But that is only part of what Nintendo is adding.
New Content Beyond Multiplayer
Nintendo is adding the long-requested Rosalina as a fully playable character across modes, while also bringing back the Koopalings as boss encounters in new courses.
The new Co-Star Luma system helps less experienced players join in without feeling left out, which fits the game’s push toward multiplayer. There is also an Assist Mode that makes things easier by stopping damage, so more people can play without struggling.
Nintendo is building on the idea of Super Mario Bros Wonder and using it as part of its move into the next generation. The game already sold millions and stood out for ideas like Wonder Flowers and Elephant Mario.
With this upgrade and expansion, the game feels more like something that will keep going, instead of something you just finish and move on from.
March 26, 2026 is when that shift begins.
