The Path of Exile 2's 0.5 update, Return of the Ancients, can grant every player a free passive point. However, one of the coolest gaming mechanics requires one player to sacrifice everything.

After the update went live, a streamer named cArn became the first to get the 'Martyr of the First Edict' achievement by deleting their level 100 character. In doing so, they granted every player in their league Solo Self-Found (SSF), a free Passive Point.

This is one of the most interesting social mechanics in gaming. A Martyr can reach level 100, which is the max level in the game. Then, they must defeat the Arbiter of Divinity boss to unlock a special chamber, ready for their sacrifice.

"You shall now refer to me as the Martyr of the First Edict," said cArn after sacrificing his character. "I saved you all."

Getting to level 100 is not easy. After levels 70-80, progression becomes really slow. Skills are certainly important, but more than that, the achievement takes a lot of time spent in the game.

However, after sacrificing himself, streamer cArn's character can be seen at the top of the leaderboard with the title 'Martyr of the First Edict.'

The player wasn't the only one to get the achievement. ResurrectGodAura also got the same achievement in the Runes of Aldur League.

This means innumerable players can get the point for free.

How To Collect the Path of Exile 2 Free Passive Point or Become a Gaming Martyr

Now that the free points are available for two leagues, players can rush to collect them. However, it's not easy to claim them. Players must reach the endgame, defeat the Arbiter of Ash, and then the Arbiter of Divinity to get the point.

They can then go to the Site of the Chosen to collect the point. If a sacrifice hasn't been made before they do so, they'll find the chamber empty.

The process of becoming a Martyr of the First Edict is also similar. You must reach the endgame Atlas, defeat the pinnacle boss, and then enter the secret chamber to sacrifice your character.

The game will test whether your character is worthy of the sacrifice or not. It's best to reach level 100 before trying to become a Martyr.

This achievement requires emotional investment and a lot of time. Not everyone can sacrifice their level 100 character. However, doing so will make a player quite iconic on the Path of Exile 2 leaderboard.

The feature is just one of the interesting new additions in the Return of the Ancients update. The content drop added 15 new bosses, six new storylines, and more.
