Modern cowboy-fashioned, gunslinging action video games aren't plentiful. However, when you mix vampire hunts, extraction shooters, robot cowboys, and some of gaming's most acclaimed open worlds, there are still plenty of ways to experience the Wild West.
Here's a list of seven video games that can deliver a core Western experience in 2026. The list is not arranged in any order or ranking.
Evil West (2022)
Evil West blends the Wild West with vampire hunting, combining stunning visuals, an appealing combat system, and a supernatural twist that helps it stand out from more traditional Western games. You can go from gunslinging to using your lightning-fueled gauntlet to fight different enemies.

It tells a very cinematic story in a world overrun by nightmarish creatures. This is not a combination you get to see everywhere.
Evil West does things differently by not holding back on a brutal monster-hunting Western game. This helps it stand out in its genre.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 (2024)
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a deeply atmospheric PvPvE Western for competitive players. You need to collect enough items and get out alive to return for another run.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a multiplayer game that can be incredibly fun with friends. Just like Evil West, it also introduces deadly monsters into the game's world.
However, you also need to look out for other players trying to take what you own. It's fierce, terrifying, and often unforgiving. For those bored with formulaic extraction shooters, this may be a decent change of pace.
Far Far West (2026)
Far Far West is still in early access, but it's one of the most enjoyable Western video games released in 2026. One to four players can play together as bounty-hunting robot cowboys.

In the game, you take bounties and missions in a magical world. On your quest to slay enemies, you must use spells and guns together, switching seamlessly when needed.
It's a more light-hearted experience meant to be enjoyed with friends, and the classic six-shooter remains available as a weapon, which is a staple of the genre.
West of Loathing (2017)
If you're not into horror games and spellcasting, West of Loathing may serve you well. It's a comedy slapstick game with a unique style. You play as stick figures presented in a black-and-white hand-drawn world.
West of Loathing is hilarious. It'll catch you off guard with unexpected incidents and put you in awkward situations. Sometimes, you'll have to shoot your way out.
The game utilizes a turn-based combat system, unlike the previous entries on the list. However, it's still incredibly entertaining and worth trying for that art style alone.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (2013)
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger provides players with an arcade-style FPS experience like no other. In the game, you play as a ruthless bounty hunter hunting down outlaws.

You get to meet historic figures like Billy the Kid and Jesse James while delivering your own brand of justice.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger also has a beautiful visual style that keeps players engaged. The arcade-style shooting mechanics make it incredibly fun.
It's a good game to try if you enjoyed games like Total Overdose previously. The themes may not be similar, but the visuals and shooting put the games in similar brackets.
Red Dead Redemption (2010)
It's impossible to discuss Western video games and not mention Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption. It's an open-world game with a rich story where you play as the former outlaw John Marston.
As Marston, you must hunt down a gang terrorizing a town. It's a classic Rockstar Games story with rich attention to detail. The world is thoroughly fulfilling, complete with saloons, six-shooters, horses, and a desert filled with surprises.
It is perhaps one of the most highly acclaimed Western video games of all time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)
Finally, the last spot on the list is reserved for Red Dead Redemption 2. One could claim that it is the best Western of our time and not be wrong. It features the gut-wrenching story of Arthur Morgan.

This game acts as a prequel to the original title mentioned earlier. Rockstar's prequel follows Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as the group begins to fracture while he grapples with a life-changing medical diagnosis.
Rockstar paid remarkable attention to detail, from dynamic wildlife and changing weather to realistic character interactions throughout the world.
Red Dead Redemption 2 created a thoroughly emotional experience for players and won many awards for the same. It is perhaps the epitome of Wild West video games.
