Marvel Rivals offers an unmatched hero-shooter experience, but it isn't the only game in the genre worth the dedication. Specifically, seven other games provide players with a distinct yet familiar experience.
These put a new spin on the genre, bringing original characters and changing the format. From Valorant to Overwatch, players have many choices.
Here is a list of seven games that are similar to Marvel Rivals in several notable ways.
Valorant - Riot Games (2020)

Valorant is a 5v5 tactical hero shooter. Like Marvel Rivals, it comes with a selection of characters to choose from, all of whom have their own abilities.
Agents like Jett can float in the air while Yoru can flash and teleport across the map. The game offers various characters across four classes to help players play it their own way.
However, the game is more focused on precise gunplay.
One headshot from a Vandal can defeat any opponent, so mechanical aim makes all the difference.
Players must purchase abilities and guns with credits, which means you must also manage your economy well.
Deadlock - Valve (Limited Access)
Deadlock is Valve's hero-shooter that incorporates MOBA elements. You'll encounter lanes, creeps called Troopers, and bosses while dealing with your opponents.
However, at its core, Deadlock is a hero shooter. You get to pick from various characters who offer a range of abilities and weapons. Therefore, players can experiment with various playstyles.
Deadlock has not seen a full release yet. The game is available via friend invites. One of the best ways to get an invite is to engage with the community on Reddit and make a few friends who play the game.
Paladins - Evil Mojo Games (2018)

Paladins offers over 50 different characters to choose from for players who must fight one another in a 5v5 format. The game features vibrant maps, flashy abilities, and hero classes like Support, Damage, and Frontline.
These classes can be comparable to classes in Marvel Rivals like Strategists, Duelists, and Vanguard, respectively. In these ways, the game offers a relatively similar experience.
Team Fortress 2 – Valve (2007)
Team Fortress 2 helped establish the genre. The game features nine classes of characters, and like other games, picks matter a lot.
Due to its tactical nature, you must learn a lot about positioning, communication, and how to use your abilities.
It's the game that may have started it all in the genre, and this makes it worth a chance.
FragPunk – Bad Guitar Studio (2025)

FragPunk follows a similar theme with a different twist. It's a hero shooter where you can change the rules of the battlefield. At the start of the round, you can pick Shard Cards which can drastically change how the round plays out.
From increased speed to generating healing spots on an entire site, Shard Cards can do anything. In this way, every round can offer variety.
The gunplay in FragPunk is extremely satisfying, and hero abilities play a huge role in securing objectives or getting frags. It also boasts a praiseworthy art style.
Splatoon 3 – Nintendo (2022)
Made for the Nintendo Switch, Splatoon is an incredibly engaging third-person shooter. Weapons are often household objects, and your ammo is ink. Its main game mode has you mark territory by painting the map with your weapons.
You can also take down enemies with your weapons and various abilities. It's a fresh lighthearted take on the otherwise intense genre. The fact that it comes on a handheld device makes it stand out.
Overwatch - Blizzard Entertainment (2023)

Last on the list is Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch. The game provides nearly the same experience as Marvel Rivals, except it features original characters.
The current game is actually a sequel to the original 2016 title.
One could say that Overwatch essentially formed the blueprint on which Marvel Rivals was built. Both have extremely similar gameplay as well as modes.
Even character abilities are comparable. Widowmaker can be compared to Black Widow, while Sigma's abilities appear similar to Magneto's.
It's the perfect game for Marvel Rivals players to try if they're looking for a different yet familiar experience.
