Rockstar Games Asked to be More Transparent by UK Politicians Over Firing Devs

As things stand, multiple Scottish Labour Members of Parliament believe that GTA 6 developers, Rockstar Games, have hindered an ongoing legal dispute tied to the firing of more than 30 developers last year.

This incident has already sparked union protests and attention in Parliament. Now, calls for “transparency and full cooperation” from lawmakers have been reported, with one comment from Parliament Member Chris Murray surfacing.

"Constituents have lost their jobs, their income, with one constituent even forced to leave the country due to the removal of their visa sponsor," Murray, the MP for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh, stated. "During a recent meeting with a constituent they explained Rockstar’s justification for their dismissal has varied throughout this process. Rockstar must answer this case with transparency and full cooperation and uphold the right to appeal.”

The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), MPs Chris Murray, Tracy Gilbert, and Dr. Scott Arthur have commented on Rockstar’s handling of the dismissals.

They also indicated that the company refuses to properly engage with staff, trade unions, and representatives.

According to Bloomberg, the firing originally took place in October 2025. A total of 34 employees across the UK and Canada lost their jobs. As per earlier reporting from Bloomberg, many of the affected workers were tied to unionization efforts within the company.

From Rockstar's perspective, these dismissals were tied to gross misconduct and alleged confidentiality breaches. It is reportedly related to Discord discussions involving internal company information.

Still, the IWGB has described the incident as one of the gaming industry’s most aggressive examples of alleged union-busting. It claims Rockstar failed to provide complete evidence and denied workers the right to appeal. It even ignored disclosure requests during the legal process.

IWGB coverage also spoke about one of the ex-employees who had to leave the country after losing visa sponsorship connected to their role. That constituent claimed Rockstar’s explanations surrounding certain dismissals had “varied throughout this process.”

Prime Minister Keir Starmer Previously Called the Rockstar Case “Deeply Concerning”

Months before these latest statements surfaced, the ongoing dispute reached the UK Parliament. Back in December 2025, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the situation as "deeply concerning.”

Starmer stated that every worker has the right to join a trade union. He also confirmed that ministers would investigate the case further. Since then, IWGB has protested outside Take-Two offices in London and pursued legal action against Rockstar.

Earlier this year, an employment tribunal denied interim relief requests. That would have temporarily restored fired employees to Rockstar’s payroll while the case continued.

However, the full tribunal hearing is still pending now, with GTA 6 coming in November this year.
