Riot Games has reportedly scrapped a major project. The long-rumored MMO-FPS set in the Valorant universe, known as 'Project T,' has been canceled. Insiders claim a new 'Genshin-like' game in the League of Legends world will now take its place.

According to recent reports from well-known insiders SargeOP_ and BigBadBear, Riot Games has changed its plans to work on an MMO-FPS set within the Valorant universe, known as Project T.

The game was rumored to be an Extraction-shooter with sandbox elements. Also, Riot Games planned a seasonal progression system, similar to that in modern live-service games.

But due to recurring layoffs, which affected the project's development, it has been cancelled. However, as one door closes, another opens. Riot Games' focus now reportedly shifts from Project T to another large-scale project.

Sources suggest that the development reached a crossroads, with the vision no longer aligning with Riot’s rigorous quality standards or the evolving market for extraction shooters.

Riot's attention has now turned to the details of this new project.

Is Riot Games Planning Another MOBA on the Way?

It looks like Riot Games is already moving forward after a few difficult hurdles. Unlike the Legends of Runeterra, which has failed to engage gamers, this new title is a "Genshin-like" open-world game.

While the project has been loosely described as an MMORPG, comparisons have sparked some confusion. Traditionally, the genre aligns more closely with titles like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV, rather than an open-world ARPG experience like Genshin Impact.

It is possible that the reference was less about gameplay structure and more about visual tone, hinting at an anime-style open world rather than a true MMO framework.

Riot Games is rumored to be considering this as its next major project. The project's rendering and presentation are designed to match the League of Legends scale, making it sort of an MOBA.

This new project will focus on multiplayer, character-driven experience and will be available on both mobile and PC. The game will most likely be available to play cross-platform.

With this new move, Riot Games is likely looking to step into the open-world space for players to explore, whilst maintaining its 'Champions-focused' gameplay.

For fans, the news is kind of bittersweet. The loss of a Valorant-themed MMO-FPS marks the end of a unique experimental era. Still, the prospect of a vibrant, accessible open-world League game suggests that Riot is doubling down on its most successful universe.
