Ubisoft's live-service project, which has been in development for years, has had its development and gameplay details recently surface online. The game in question is Assassin's Creed Invictus, and has been part of Ubisoft’s 10-year Assassin’s Creed plan.
The news comes from a report from Co-Founder and Editor-In-Chief of Insider Gaming, Tom Henderson. The report focuses on a tipster, namely @xj0nathan, a YouTube and streamer who has written via his X account about the development of Assassin's Creed Invictus.
The tipster has stated that there were some playtests for the game on April 30, and that they were "really f****** awful." The tipster further stated, "It's supposed to come out by the end of the year, but there's a good chance it'll get delayed or even canceled."
He also showed a screenshot of the invitation being sent to a playtester for testing by Ubisoft, asking the tester to complete a questionnaire while giving out the PC requirements for the same.
Let us talk more about the state of the game, as the report indicates.
The State of Assassin's Creed Invictus
Insider Gaming further reports that the game "is perhaps in a state you wouldn’t expect from a multiplayer project that’s been many years in development."
Some earlier reports claimed it to be a game like Fall Guys, and though it seems like the game comes with some Fall Guys elements, being a knockout-round-based game, it still stays with the Assassin's Creed aesthetics.
@xj0nathan clarified the same in an X post last weekend, writing:
"I'd like to remind people that when I say that Assassin's Creed Invictus will be a Fall Guys, it's mostly with regard to its structure, namely: a sequence of several short rounds. That's all! At no point is it related to the graphical style with little bean men x) I had already said it in 2024 but people have twisted my words over time."
Notably, Ubisoft itself said in a blog post earlier this year that the title "isn’t quite what the rumors have suggested."
According to footage sent to Insider Gaming, the game lets you choose from several Assassins from the franchise, with multiplayer PvP fighting in an arena from titles like Mirage and Odyssey.
While @xj0nathan claims that the playtest experience is awful according to some testers, Insider Gaming has heard that the game might have some potential.
The team developing the game comprises a small group of For Honor developers, and hopes to replicate the live service's success.
Despite negative playtest reports and potential delays, Assassin’s Creed Invictus does represent a bold multiplayer experiment for Ubisoft, blending the series' aesthetics with arena-style PvP as the developers aim for long-term success.
