Rating Every Game Announcements at June 2026 State of Play [Opinion]

PlayStation's 60-minute State of Play just confirmed God of War Laufey is a reality. The event showcased brutal Wolverine gameplay alongside concrete release dates for 2026 software slate.

This list evaluates the biggest updates based on their anticipated impact on the industry.

Most Impactful Announcements

One of the most exciting announcements from the PlayStation State of Play 2026 was God of War Laufey. The game, centered around Kratos' wife, was merely a rumor for months. Now, it's real.

The State of Play event showed fans 20 minutes' worth of footage from the game. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye, and the game acts as a prequel, showing us what happened after the character had passed.

Apart from this, the reveal of Marvel's Wolverine gave us a deep look into the game's brutal action, and it appears to do justice to Logan's usual visceral combat.

It also unveiled a cast of familiar characters, such as Sabretooth and Jean Grey. Finally, the rumors were confirmed as the game's pre-orders started right after the announcement.

The PlayStation State of Play had something for RPG fans, too. The event finally revealed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to be released on September 25, 2026.

The upcoming CAPCOM title lets players experience a dark Edo-era Kyoto as Musashi Miyamoto. A free demo is available as of June 2, 2026.

There was more than one sword-wielding protagonist at the State of Play event. Phantom Blade Zero was showcased, and it was revealed that pre-orders will begin in the summer, along with the launch of a full trailer.

Finally, Control Resonant is coming, and it's soon. The sequel to the 2019 hit is coming out on September 24, 2026. It will follow Dylan Faden as the protagonist as he battles a cosmic threat, the likes of which we've never seen before.

Interesting Announcements

While some reveals lacked emotional weight, they still provided crucial development updates. The Silent Hill Townfall teaser felt brief and left several gameplay questions unanswered.

The game does not seem drastically different from the previous games, but its story could take fans by surprise. To make matters more interesting, it's also releasing on the same day as Control Resonant.

The PlayStation State of Play 2026 had more in store for horror fans. A new look at Ill was revealed during the event. The realistic action-horror game by Team Clout looks brutal.

It has some of the most horrifying enemies seen in the zombie genre. However, for now, it just appears that the game is set to release in 2027.

New characters were unveiled for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The new team consists of Dr. Doom, Carnage, Magneto, and Green Goblin.

Rayman Legends Retold was also announced with a release date of October 1, 2026. The game is set to be a reimagining of the classic, which may have a very niche player base.

A similar situation surrounds the upcoming game, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Coming out on February 12, 2027, the game revisits the original 1996 title as the character goes from Peru to Greece.

It's yet another brilliant announcement that may have a special appeal due to its nostalgia.

A new action-adventure title, Kemuri, was also unveiled at the PS State of Play 2026. The game takes you to a yokai-filled world where you must either hunt them or wield their powers.

Underwhelming Announcements

The Lost Wild is coming in 2027. It's a dinosaur horror game that appears to have some narrative elements, with possible character-driven storylines.

Not much is known about the game and the reveal does not tell us much about the gameplay, story, or features either. On the surface, it looks similar to some of the other dinosaur horror games like Dino Crisis or Jurassic Park: Survival.

Until Dawn 2 was also revealed at the PS State of Play 2026 event. It appears to have some celebrity cameos and a scary storyline. The slasher-horror thriller gives players unforgiving choices and then makes them face the consequences.

However, considering the State of Play's horror lineup, this announcement felt somewhat underwhelming.

Dune Awakening is coming to the PS5 on September 22, 2026. Considering its success on PC, the game's port to consoles was somewhat inevitable.

Yet another RPG is set to grace the PS5 in the form of No Rest for the Wicked. The soulslike is coming to the platform in October 2026, but with the previous announcements, the genre is packed, and the game has a ton of competition.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve was also announced. The game will launch on October 2, 2026. It continues a long-running franchise featuring fighter jets and more.

The new installment appears more dramatic than any other. However, its base remains the same, grounded in aerial combat.

A similar adventure awaits fans on the ground with Stuntman: Hollywood. Players get to experience some of Hollywood's biggest stunts in-game, making this trailer somewhat appealing.

Finally, Bancho from Dave the Diver stars in his own game, Bancho the Chef.

It's a cooking simulator that looks rather interesting. However, the mechanics do not appear unique, and the trailer did not tell us much about the game.
