PS4 Users Say They’re Receiving PS5 Upgrade Emails for GTA 6

There have been no major updates for GTA 6 since the second trailer dropped. However, Sony Interactive Entertainment may have already started using the game as part of a hardware upsell push for the PS5.

According to reports, PS4 users are receiving targeted PlayStation emails and console notifications. These messages encourage them to upgrade to a PS5 ahead of GTA 6's launch on November 19, 2026.

We are still a few months away from release, but fans are eagerly waiting for the next trailer along with pre-order details. The messages have triggered rumors that a formal marketing push is imminent.

According to screenshots shared online by users and GTA-focused insiders, the messages directly reference GTA 6 and its launch date. One notification mentions: “Grand Theft Auto VI is on your wishlist. Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026.”

Some players reportedly received alternate messages labeling them as “top Grand Theft Auto V players” while still encouraging a PS5 upgrade before GTA 6 launches. These prompts are reportedly appearing through both PlayStation emails and the PS Store.

The wording of these messages quickly caught attention, as Rockstar Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment had largely avoided direct GTA 6 marketing until now. The prompts also strongly suggest the game will not launch on PS4.

Rockstar itself has never mentioned support for previous-generation consoles. Some fans still using older hardware expected the game would eventually arrive on those systems.

These messages now strongly suggest that Grand Theft Auto VI will not receive a PS4 port. Along with that, it also appears to end speculation surrounding an Xbox One version.

The game is already driving PlayStation 5 console sales. With the holiday season approaching, fans can likely expect strong deals on Sony's newer-generation consoles.

Take-Two boss says GTA 6 marketing is starting “soon”

With the recent confirmation by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick that GTA 6’s marketing campaign will begin soon, the notifications and emails have only added fuel to fan speculation.

Considering the current situation, the promotional activity may already have started.

According to Zelnick, Take-Two Interactive usually avoids large marketing pushes until a game is close to release, which could also be seen as a positive sign for the current launch window.

Fans may potentially hear more about the title during the upcoming Take-Two earnings call, scheduled for May 21.
