A fan-favorite survival game is making a surprise return to Xbox Game Pass. The Long Dark arrives just in time to give players a chance to jump back into the frozen wilderness.

After close to three years, The Long Dark has now officially made its comeback on Xbox Game Pass. And the game returns at a meaningful time.

Episode 5, titled “The Light at the End of All Things," is releasing tomorrow. This also happens to be the final chapter of the game's ongoing Wintermute story mode.

This critically acclaimed survival game is now available in the subscription service from March 30, 2026. The exciting part is that users across Ultimate, Premium, and even PC tiers can play this game for free, including on console and in the cloud.

This Hinterland Studio title has also maintained a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, with over 90% favorable reviews, and boasts a 4+ star rating on Xbox as well.

The reason behind this game's success is its core survival elements. Freezing temperatures, hunger, wildlife, and limited resources - this game tests every bit of survival instinct of the players.

The Long Dark features two experiences. There is a story-driven mode through Wintermute, and a sandbox survival mode that pushes players to test their limits. It takes around 50 hours to finish the main storyline. However, completionists can spend over 200 hours.

Other Big Xbox Game Pass additions continue to build momentum

The Long Dark might be grabbing the attention right now, but it's far from the only addition in Xbox Game Pass this month. March 2026 has quietly turned into one of the service’s strongest stretches in recent memory.

Games like DreamWorks Gabby’s Dollhouse: Ready to Party, South of Midnight, and Disco Elysium have already joined the lot. However, the highlight is yet to come onto the stage.

The biggest addition on Game Pass this month might be Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which joins the catalog on March 31. Just like The Long Dark, this is also a returning title.

The fun doesn't stop there. Beyond March, Barbie Horse Trails, Final Fantasy IV, and the current Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, will also be available on Game Pass in April.
