PlayStation 6 Reports Highlight AI, Cloud, and Cross-Gen Games

Several leaks and reports are surfacing across sundry platforms relating to PlayStation 6. A new report suggests that PS6 will have basic features like cross-gen games and social media apps on the platform, but what may intrigue readers is that it could have integrated AI and updates to the Cloud Game Streaming service.

The gaming world has a big leak for PlayStation fans about the next-gen console. According to a report by James Lara of MP1st, PS6 will have major changes to cloud gaming, along with AI compatibility for better performance.

Based on the information in the article, the next-gen PS console will support cross-gen games like previous generations, while also focusing on "Next Gen Social Apps" and improvements in Video streaming and multitasking.

Also, the cloud gaming service will have major improvements, with reports suggesting that it could use PCIe Gen5 NVMe. Lara says that PlayStation has been working on hardware infrastructure for next-gen cloud game streaming servers for over 3 years.

Recently, AMD leaker Kepler_L2 also said that the console will likely have a 1TB Gen5 SSD. However, this is the hardware component, different from the storage solution for the cloud streaming service.

With advancements in AI, even the gaming industry is shifting towards it. Let us see what the next-gen PS console could bring to the table in terms of AI.

Next-gen PlayStation console's AI capabilities

Whether you see AI as a threat to human creation or not, it is likely to stay in the gaming ecosystem, it seems. With the PS5 Pro, for instance, Sony delved into AI upscaling with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), similar to Nvidia's DLSS.

Lara made a great link, showcasing Ayan Kumar Bhunia's LinkedIn profile, who is a Senior Research Scientist at Sony PlayStation, based in London. He pointed out Bhunia's highlights of professional work since he joined Sony PlayStation in 2023, which states, "Spearheaded core research behind the frame interpolation pipeline for the next-generation PlayStation platform."

Another highlight that we would like to point out is written as, "Transitioned into next-gen game super-resolution, developing both diffusion-based models for fidelity and latency-optimised architectures for real-time use."

This means that Sony has been actively working to improve PSSR/AI upscaling further to boost performance, resolution, and fidelity, while also reducing latency.

So, as per the report, PlayStation aims to revolutionize gaming through advanced AI upscaling, improved cloud streaming, and powerful hardware for seamless cross-generation play. Changes can happen gradually over time, and it is important to note that Sony has yet to officially confirm the aforementioned reports.
