Paramount Announces Call of Duty Movie With a June 2028 Release

Call of Duty fans have something to look forward to in 2028, as Paramount Pictures announced at CinemaCon 2026 that the film adaptation will release on June 30, 2028.

The timing of the release seems strategic, coinciding with the July 4 holiday weekend right after. The director of the movie, Peter Berg, and the lead writer, Taylor Sheridan, seem well-suited for a Call of Duty movie, having a history of working together.

Their past collaboration includes gritty projects like Hell or High Water, where Berg served as a producer and Sheridan wrote the screenplay, earning four Oscar nominations.

Berg has also found success with intense military films like Lone Survivor, while Sheridan is known for raw dialogue and grounded settings in Sicario and Yellowstone, raising expectations for the project.

Speaking about upcoming projects, Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison stated, "I love cinema, and I love film. I always have and I always will… You can count on our complete commitment."

This was a reassurance of the studio's commitment to the COD movie, along with the massive Top Gun 3, which was announced to be in its early stages.

Activision reportedly turned down Steven Spielberg for the project because he wanted full creative control. Instead, they went with Paramount, which granted them a collaborative approach.

This shows Activision's protectiveness toward its flagship franchise, which has generated over $35 billion in revenue over the years.

Can the Call of Duty Movie Deliver for Fans?

With the release still more than two years away, fans have many questions they will be waiting to have answered.

Concerns over Hollywood’s uneven track record with video game adaptations remain, with Paramount’s Halo getting mixed reactions, while Amazon’s Fallout has brought back some confidence in the genre.

The mainline COD games like Modern Warfare III have also received widespread criticism for being rushed and uninspired campaign, earning a low Metacritic score of 56.

Many saw Black Ops 6 as a return to form for the franchise. It managed to secure the biggest launch weekend in Call of Duty history.

The success it achieved has now set the bar very high for what fans expect, both visually and story-wise. This means that the Paramount movie has a very high standard to meet.

Will it satisfy the Call of Duty fanbase? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
