An unfamiliar game has soared through the charts of player count and has now reached over 13 million daily players, and counting. The report comes from the gaming giant Tencent itself.
The game has been at the top of the charts ever since it was announced, and it is Roco Kingdom: World. According to the first quarter financial report of 2026 released by Tencent, the game "sustained over 13 million average DAU across PC and mobile, and ranked among top 10 mobile games by gross receipts."
A report from Niko Partners, back in late March, when the game launched in China, reported that it had surpassed 60 million pre-registrations.
Additionally, the game was also ranked number one on China’s iOS download and grossing charts, reaching over 15 million players on day one.
Another report from Niko Partners recorded the livestreaming data of games in China, according to which Roco Kingdom: World amassed a viewership count of over 49.4 million, and was ranked third, below World of Warcraft and Genshin Impact.
But the real question arises: what is this game about, and why is it being liked so much in China?
The Popularity Surge of Roco Kingdom: World
Roco Kingdom: World has become popular ever since it was announced, and there are a few factors why it has become a giant in China.
First, it is a free-to-play open-world pet RPG that has similarities to Palworld. Also, the game does not run with the same approach to monetization as other Tencent games, with no gacha system and relying on cosmetics purchases instead.
Its dynamic pet activities make the game feel more alive, with pets taking shelter during rain and coming out to sunbathe. The game has over 400 pets to catch with turn-based combat, similar to a Pokémon game.
Although it has a PvP mode, giving that competitive edge to gamers, you can just explore the world and bask in the environment, and collect all the pets as well.
Finally, its graphics sometimes remind you of the iconic Ghibli production, with a vibrant environment and a feel-good vibe in the open-world game. With the massive success and current reports showcasing the rise of Roco Kingdom: World, Tencent might release the game to other regions of the world in the future.
