Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launches with 12 playable fighters. However, only 10 of them are available from the start. Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra remain locked behind Story Mode progression.
That is why players are required to complete specific chapters before they join the roster. But some players won't be going that way. They have already uncovered a hidden input sequence that unlocks both characters almost instantly.
The hidden input appears to be an intentional developer cheat rather than an exploit. It doesn't modify save data or use third-party tools. Instead, it relies entirely on menu navigation and button inputs.
The discovery came from Discord user Shinigami7 and was later shared on X by @MikeAndIkeFGC. He shared the method for tournament organizers looking to prepare event setups without replaying Story Mode.
To activate it, head to the game's main menu and highlight the following options in order, pressing the Select button after each one:
- Arcade
- Training
- Local VS
- Arcade
Even after following the right sequence, the trick can fail because timing is very important here. One should enter the input within roughly two seconds of the previous one.
Entering the sequence too quickly or waiting too long can cause the input to fail. When performed correctly, the game plays a sound effect confirming the cheat has been accepted.
There is another thing to keep in mind. The Select input depends on the controller being used. On PlayStation's DualSense Edge, the Share button functions as Select. Other controllers may map it to Back, Touchpad, or another equivalent button.
The cheat effectively removes the need to progress through Story Mode before accessing the complete launch roster. That makes it especially useful for local multiplayer sessions, practice mode, and tournament setups where every character needs to be available immediately.
How to unlock Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra normally
Still, some players prefer to unlock characters through gameplay. And to be honest, that's fair on their side because it gives the real essence of the game.
So, for them, Nightmare Korra becomes available after completing Chapter 6. On the other hand, Avatar Aang unlocks after finishing Chapter 11. A full Story Mode playthrough takes roughly four hours.
Outside of unlocking the characters, Story Mode primarily offers the game's narrative experience rather than exclusive gameplay rewards. As a result, players interested in online matches, versus play, or tournament practice lose little by using the hidden cheat instead.
