Pearl Abyss’s latest showcase of Crimson Desert has left fans awe-struck because of an unusual factor: rain!

While the game looks incredible, the movement mechanics of the rain have grabbed the attention of people.

Now, as fans may already know, water is a massive benchmark in video game visuals. It's not just about large bodies of water, but the way water physics works

To begin with, water physics in video games takes an immense amount of computational power. It's a massive resource-intensive task for the hardware, so developers are forced to prioritize between smooth gameplay and visual quality.

And when games do find that balance, the result is incredible. For example, take Batman: Arkham Knight or The Last of Us II. Both games had settings where it had just rained or it was raining. Despite that, producers found the right balance between quality and performance.

So when a game like Crimson Desert came along with massive battlefields and settings, it was a surprise to see good quality visuals.

What Makes The Game Standout

“Crimson Desert’s graphics at night time during heavy rain look INSANE! This is some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen in an open world game, It’s mindblowing,” a fan commented.

Crimson Desert is using Ray Traced Diffused Global Illumination, which has helped in enhancing the lighting and acts according to the day/night cycle. The day/night cycle also makes the world feel more alive, like changing textures of the surroundings during the day/night cycle and the effect of indoor shadows due to the cycle.

Talking about the cycle, a fan commented, “How important is Day/Night cycle is in a game for you? Well Crimson Desert has got that too and it looks better than ever!”

Another factor that the game goes into is the RT Reflections, making shadows accurate and sharper when getting contacted with light. Crimson Desert simulates the physical properties of materials, causing marble floors to reflect natural lighting.

Another fan took it to social media, stating, “The nighttime visuals in Crimson Desert during rainfall are absolutely breathtaking. This is easily one of the most impressive graphics ever in an open-world game!”

Crimson Desert will be pitched black at night, just like Dragon’s Dogma 2, which has only enhanced the way the thunderstorms look and feel in the game. The gameplay looks serene with every droplet reflected by thunder and lightning.

That's why this fan added, "The nighttime visuals in Crimson Desert during rainfall are absolutely breathtaking. This is easily one of the most impressive graphics ever in an open-world game!"

As Crimson Desert prepares for its simultaneous launch on PC and consoles on March 19th, it is clear that Pearl Abyss isn't just building a game, but rather crafting a technical marvel that might just redefine environmental storytelling for years to come.
