A June 12 report by the Daily Mirror cited a friend close to KSI who claimed that the circumstances surrounding his departure from Sidemen were much different from how they were publicly portrayed and that KSI was almost frozen out despite remaining committed to Sidemen content shoots.
As KSI released a video of his own announcing and explaining his decision, pointing to a packed schedule and burnout as reasons to move away from being a part of Sidemen, the group released a statement announcing the same.
They mentioned they were caught by surprise by the timing of it and also highlighted how they wished to give their friend KSI a proper sendoff after more than a decade of creating content together under the Sidemen umbrella.
The report and its allegations were widely discussed online, with X page KSI News sharing updates on the situation.
The friend stated that KSI released a standalone video without informing Sidemen after rumors about the matter began circulating. The Britain's Got Talent judge wanted fans to hear the news directly from him rather than through tabloids and made an impromptu decision to upload it.
The Daily Mirror report further highlights the friend's claim that tensions between KSI and other Sidemen members rose to such an extent during the Paris match that KSI was forced to stay in a different hotel.
Meanwhile, fans across the world have been criticizing KSI's decision and the manner of his exit from Sidemen, a group he built alongside his real-life friends back in 2013.
Sidemen Member Tobi Defends KSI's Decision
While KSI's exit was sudden and his announcement rather premature, fellow Sidemen member Tobi understands his friend's decision.
Tobi highlighted how KSI had pondered the decision at length and that it was not a choice made without considering its weight.
He said, "He struggled with it for a long time. At the end, he had to make the decision. That will now allow him to have his family at the center of everything and put shoots around things. You see him do like 200 million shoots, just know that he's built that around his family, and he has nothing else to devote his time to, and he's going to be his full-driven KSI that we all know and love."
Now that the dust has settled somewhat, The group has also made it clear that KSI's departure will not mark the end of Sidemen, with the remaining members continuing to create content together.
