Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, but Game Pass subscribers will have to wait

Activision has shared more Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 pre-order info, revealing its release date, editions, prices, and more. Surprisingly, it won’t be on Xbox Game Pass on day one, either.

Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026. Digital pre-order buyers get Early Access to the Campaign and the returning extraction shooter mode DMZ, on October 16 and October 20 respectively.

Modern Warfare 4 won’t be arriving on Xbox Game Pass on day one. It’s likely to land on Game Pass in Holiday 2027.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is Activision’s next first-person shooter. Set in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare universe, it will feature an entirely new story. The narrative centers on escalating geopolitical tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The fate of the world rests upon the shoulders of a handful of brave heroes defending urban sprawls from withering assaults. Players will follow legendary leader Captain Price as he calls on operatives from across his network for one last covert operation in the shadows, for a conflict that will forever change the world.

Recently, Xbox boss Asha Sharma has been working on a “reset” for its struggling gaming business, which includes making more console exclusives. Apparently, one area in which Microsoft is backing away from involves the Xbox Game Pass side of things. While recent Call of Duty games have launched on the subscription service, Modern Warfare 4 won’t be getting that treatment. It’s unknown when Call of Duty titles will next return to Xbox Game Pass launch day, though MW4 will likely join in Holiday 2027.
