Minecraft blocks ranked according to their usefulness [Opinion]

Some Minecraft blocks are so useful that players rely on them from their first day in a world to the final battle against the Ender Dragon. Others look important but end up collecting dust in storage.

From basic survival essentials to late-game progression tools, here are the 10 most useful Minecraft blocks ranked based on their overall value throughout a survival playthrough.

10. Enchanting Table

Starting strong, the Enchanting Table is an essential block item in Minecraft. It's the next level of enhancement possible in Minecraft after you have upgraded your weapons and armor to Netherite, the highest level possible without enchantments.

A fully enchanted weapon, tool, or armor piece can save you hours of additional work, make everything more efficient, and also protect you better against incoming hostile mobs.

9. Chest

You can collect loot, farm materials, and even mine everything possible. But storing them is a real problem. A Chest is a block item that solves that issue.

A Chest can store your items, and combining chests can create even larger ones for storage purposes. You will find plenty of chests in every Minecraft user's home, and some keep chests in their tamed animals while traversing the Minecraft biomes.

8. Furnace

A Furnace makes your Minecraft life so much easier; it has to be on the list. A Furnace allows you to smelt iron from collected ores and also enables you to cook meat procured from surrounding animals.

Cooked food satisfies your hunger better and is essential for every survival mode player. To add to it, a Furnace helps you craft glass, stone, and other fancy building materials, which add an aesthetic vibe to your creations.

7. Emerald

Emeralds are the currency for villagers in Minecraft and can help you collect items that will help you progress faster and more efficiently in the game.

The usefulness of Emerald blocks grows as you progress in Minecraft, allowing you to store Emeralds more efficiently and helping you gain access to rare items through trading.

A good maxed-out trading hall is the solution to all your needs if you have enough Emeralds. It is also one of the rarest in-game blocks according to CreeperHost.

6. Diamond

Diamond blocks are probably some of the premium blocks in Minecraft and are greatly useful for a list of purposes. Apart from going into the Nether to get Netherite, Diamond is the highest level of weapons, tools, and armor achievable in the game. Unlike Emeralds, Diamonds are directly used for progression and equipment upgrades, making them essential for survival and combat.

Diamond blocks are an iconic resource in the Minecraft world, and even though Emeralds take more precedence in the late game, Diamond will always find more use.

5. Crafting Table

One of the most important blocks in Minecraft, a Crafting Table is more like a gateway, a magical one to get all you desire. Without a Crafting Table, progressing in Minecraft is impossible, as every necessity has to be crafted through it.

The Crafting Table allows 3x3 recipes and helps you gain access to tools, weapons, armor, and more. The block can be created within the first few minutes of landing in the game, as soon as you gather some wood from the trees.

4. Iron Ore

Iron Ore can be smelted into Iron. While Diamond represents a higher tier of tools, weapons, and armor, mining Iron and crafting Iron-level necessities is your first rite of passage.

To add to it, Iron is necessary to craft items such as Anvils, Buckets, Shields, Compasses, and other advanced items.

Iron stands atop the block pyramid in terms of key raw materials because of its high early-game importance and because it is easier to obtain, even for newbies.

3. Dirt

The walking block of Minecraft, Dirt blocks are the bedrock of the biome. Dirt blocks are the only ones that find usefulness from the first minute until the completion of the game.

While Dirt blocks are a necessary part of the survival process on the first night in Minecraft, they are also known for coming in handy when elevating yourself in the final battle against the Ender Dragon.

The most abundant resource, Dirt blocks are underrated by aesthetic users.

2. Wood

If there's any block that's as abundant in the Minecraft world, it's Wood. Wood is the first resource you need to collect as soon as you drop into a newly generated world.

Other items on the list, such as the Crafting Table, are possible only because of Wood, meaning Wood is the mother block of the Minecraft world.

From being a good fuel source to being useful for a host of other necessary items in the game, the various types of Wood also help add color and shape to your buildings.

1. Obsidian

Obsidian is arguably the most useful block in Minecraft, as it allows you to access the Nether by building a Nether Portal, where you can obtain the materials needed to upgrade your tools beyond Diamond to Netherite, the highest tier possible before enchantments.

It also marks a major step in progression, serving as a checkpoint that gets you closer to being ready for the Ender Dragon battle. In terms of overall usefulness, Obsidian takes precedence over all other blocks.
