Marathon vs ARC Raiders: Which New Extraction Shooter Is Actually Worth Your Time?

Two new extraction shooters are suddenly dominating the gaming scene. Marathon and ARC Raiders may share the same genre, but they are built around very different ideas. So, which one should you choose?

There is one area where Marathon immediately grabs attention, and it's the gunplay. The moment a firefight begins, this title shows the Bungi's shooter heritage. Weapons feel sharper, more responsive, and lethal as compared to ARC Raiders.

The reason behind this is the noticeable TTK or time to kill. Fights in the Bungie title can end in seconds if one squad gets the jump first. That is why positioning, communication, and reaction time matter far more than prolonged firefights.

On the other hand, ARC Raiders approaches combat differently. There is more room to react in combat in this game because of its slow pacing and higher survivability.

In the end, both games succeed in different ways. ARC Raiders is a more relaxed version of an extraction shooting experience. Whereas Marathon leans heavily into high-pressure PvP thrill.

So, the verdict? If you prefer controlled exploration, then ARC Raiders is for you. Or if you want a constant threat, there's nothing better than Marathon.

Why ARC Raiders and Marathon feel like two different extraction shooters

Apart from the gunplay, the most obvious difference is the perspective. The moment you load into either game, this contrast hits you. ARC Raider uses a third-person perspective, whereas Marathon is in first person.

Hence, ARC Raider players can peek around the corners and gather information from a third-person advantage. On the other hand, Marathon players have to expose themselves and depend entirely upon reaction speeds.

There are even differences in progression systems. ARC Raider focuses on crafting, resource gathering, and upgrades. But Marathon is based on faction contracts and ability-based Runner Shells.

These pointers actually prove that, despite belonging to the same genre, ARC Raiders and Marathon are almost entirely different games.
