"It's a Pity": Remedy's New CEO Opens Up on Their Video Games' Sales

Remedy's new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, says Remedy's top hits should have sold better. The former EA executive now plans to maximize existing titles before expanding.

Gaudechon sat down with The Game Business for an exclusive interview and explained how games like Alan Wake and Control should have sold more copies.

"It’s a pity, I think Alan Wake should have sold more. Control should have sold more. To me, that’s one of the first things we need to fix, even before trying to make more games to a certain extent." Jean-Charles Gaudechon said.

"First of all, maximize the potential of the ones we have, because they’re incredible," said in the May 26, 2026, interview. The CEO also believes that cross-media can help them achieve the games' full potential.

Both Alan Wake and Control received highly positive reviews from fans and critics alike. However, when it came to the numbers game, both titles staggered behind.

Alan Wake was released at approximately the same time as Red Dead Redemption, which proved to be a powerful competitor. Remedy Entertainment's action horror game was released in 2010.

Reports from 2015 suggest that the game has sold anywhere between 3 and 4 million copies. On the other hand, Alan Wake 2 surpassed 2 million copies sold in about two years since its release.

Finally, the studio's 2020 title, Control, has sold over 6 million copies as of March 2026. With a sequel on its way, this number may increase.

New Remedy CEO Wants to Make Major Changes

According to Jean-Charles Gaudechon, Remedy's reputation precedes the developer. However, he also believes that games like Alan Wake and Control could be doing much more than they are.

The new CEO believes that he knows exactly what Remedy is. He aims to bring some sense of organization to a developer that is otherwise somewhat messy, according to him.

The CEO received quite a few messages after being appointed. Many of his industry friends asked him not to mess up this opportunity. According to him, all of them are fans of Remedy and the studio's precious work.

However, that doesn't mean that there's no work to be done. Gaudechon wants to push Remedy into its new era, where they're self-publishing games more often.

This would allow the studio a greater degree of creative freedom and also make it independent. The CEO believes that the studio has its own voice and no one can make it better heard than them.
