How to Find and Beat "The Trickster" in Vampire Crawlers

Vampire Crawlers is a turbo-charged, turn-based roguelite deckbuilder game. Players can explore maps, level up powers, and evolve their cards. The game is developed by the creators of the original title, Poncle.

The original title is Vampire Survivors, which came out in 2022, and is a critically acclaimed indie "bullet heaven" roguelite where players need to survive waves of monsters using weapons that are automated to attack.

Only a few enemies bring that curiosity and fear when fighting against them as much as the "Trickster". The purple-colored variant of the Grim Reaper is often mistaken for appearing at the end of the game. People think of it as a final level boss who will stand before you to defeat you as the standard Reaper, which ends your run when the clock runs out.

But the Trickster is drastically different from the Reaper. Not in design and style, but in the timing of the appearance. While many think that the enemy is tied to the Ovenkilt relic or specific end-game levels, Trickster can actually appear anytime you want in the game, as reported by Nintendo Wire.

The trick is simple: you need to play a single card again and again until it breaks. When you play the same card repeatedly during a single turn and eventually make a long combo, you will see cracks forming across the screen. If you continue the loop, the card will finally shatter, and the Trickster will be summoned immediately to the battleground.

Now, to make the encounter even easier, you should choose a character like Poe. His special ability allows him to draw a card whenever a blue card is played. You can create an infinite loop using a zero mana cost armor.

Also, it is recommended to attempt to summon the Trickster on an easier map like the Mad Forest. Let us take a look at the reason behind this peculiar strategy.

How To Beat The Trickster In Vampire Crawlers

The reason behind summoning the Trickster in the easy levels of the game, like Mad Forest, is simple. It decreases the overall attack power of the boss.

If you summon the boss at end-game levels like Cappella Ultimate, the Trickster's attack power can rise up to almost 450. Whereas, summoning it in lower levels keeps it locked at around 45.

Now that the boss is summoned, the first thing you would want to do is to end your current turn. If you continue your combo, another Trickster will be summoned, which makes it even harder for you to win.

While characters like Poe are excellent for summoning the Trickster, characters like Pugnala Provola are top-tier for the actual combat phase. Provola gives you an edge with her ability to draw four cards when playing a yellow card, giving you the ability to cause high-damage combos.

Also, Wild Cards will be extremely useful in this scenario, as these extend your combos. You could also use the "Jester’s Hat" arcana, which provides you with a wild card for clearing a floor. Keep in mind that to unlock the Jester Hat, you need to play 150 wild cards beforehand.

After all the mayhem and havoc created, what does defeating the Trickster grant you? An "Unbreakable Gem" is the answer. When slotted into a card, the gem prevents cards from breaking, even while landing massive combos.

You can slot it in a card, and there you have it, an eternal factor to your gameplay, allowing you to loop cards without the fear of the purple death returning.

Mastering the mechanics of card breaking is the key to conquering The Trickster. Also, with the Unbreakable Gem in hand, your future runs will become legendary.
