GTA 6 is still five months away from its highly anticipated launch. In the meantime, Rockstar Games is making it easier for millions of players to experience the definitive version of GTA 5.
The studio has announced that starting June 18, eligible GTA 5 owners on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC can upgrade to newer versions of the game at no additional cost.
This offer applies to all PS4 owners of GTA 5, regardless of whether they have physical or digital copies. On Xbox, however, only players who own the digital Xbox One version are eligible for the free upgrade. On the other hand, PC players running the Legacy version of GTA 5 can also upgrade to the Enhanced Edition for free.
Players upgrading to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S will gain access to the latest version of GTA 5 and GTA Online. This included a range of technical improvements introduced with the current-generation release in 2022. Here are some of those upgrades:
- 4K resolution
- frame rates up to 60 FPS
- improved texture quality
- HDR support
- ray-tracing features
- faster loading times
- platform-specific enhancements.
With the free upgrade, players will also be able to migrate both Story Mode and GTA Online progress. This ensures existing characters, businesses, and campaign saves carry over to the newer version.
Players will also get their hands on Hao’s Special Works vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and other features that were previously exclusive to current-generation platforms. For PC players, the Enhanced Edition will additionally gain access to ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination features.
With GTA 6 around the corner, Rockstar has played a brilliant move to remove the final paywall of GTA 5 for many last-gen console users.
Rockstar’s July GTA Online update will send players after priceless art
Alongside the free upgrade, there is another piece of news for the GTA fans announced this week. Rockstar revealed that the new GTA Online update, Kortz Center Heist, is scheduled to launch in July.
Set in Pacific Bluffs, the update centers on the prestigious Kortz Center. This is a landmark known for housing valuable international artwork. According to Rockstar, players will infiltrate the facility and steal pieces from its collection as part of a new multi-stage Heist.
To begin planning the operation, players will need to purchase an Art Studio for their Mansion property. From there, they can scout the sprawling complex, prepare equipment, and choose how to execute the robbery.
