God of War Could Be Getting a New Spin-Off, Report Hints

A new 'God of War' spin-off may be in the works. The rumor mill ignited after a former Sony Santa Monica writer detailed their work on LinkedIn for a 'new franchise' within the game's universe. The post has since vanished, but the speculation is just beginning.
Taking to LinkedIn, the former writer wrote, “Helped shape narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP... Integrated story with gameplay and worldbuilding through scripts and narrative content, collaborating across disciplines to deliver emotionally driven experiences for a global audience. Contributed to long-term narrative and franchise strategy.”
The screenshots of the text began quickly circulating on the internet. However, the LinkedIn account that shared this news seems to have been deleted. And reportedly, the writer worked with Santa Monica Studio from 2020 to 2025. But there’s no way to authenticate the claims.
Nevertheless, Jason Schreier further added fuel to the speculations. He previously revealed that Sony is planning to make several “sequels and spinoffs” and expand the God of War universe. "I'll put it this way: it's not a new IP but it might feel like one. Maybe that's why people are confused. Please don't ask me more questions about this - if I wind up reporting more information at any point in the future it'll be in an article, not on a forum."
Rumors on IGN pointed towards a different path than an Atreus game. They believed that a possible Faye storyline could be explored. While Ragnarok let us see one side of Faye through flashbacks, her adventures as the last of the Jotun could be interesting to explore in a prequel
But that's just one possibility.
God of War Might Include Mythological Egypt Next
There have been rumors about God of War diving into Egyptian mythology for a long time now. Another insider, Tom Henderson, previously hinted that Kratos might wield the Khopesh in the upcoming installment of the game.
The comic, God of War: The Fallen God, did take us to Egypt for a short while, so there's some potential to build off that.
Nevertheless, according to Christopher Judge, the voice behind Kratos, the new game will be revealed somewhere around late Summer 2026. However, it’s still unclear if we’d get to play as Kratos and his son, Atreus, in the next game. Till the announcement comes, we can only speculate.
Before the new title, a remastered trilogy of the original God of War games is set to be released.
