A new game called Pickmon is drawing criticism online after gamers pointed out similarities to Pokémon and Palworld following the release of its trailer.

Pickmon is an upcoming open-world game already listed on Steam. As per the Steam page, players will collect creatures called Pickmon, fight them, and use them to farm and build structures. It’s listed as a survival crafter with the option for co-op.

However, there were several issues with the game’s trailer. The player character looks like Legend of Zelda’s Link (from Breath of the Wild). Instead of using Poké Balls, the character uses cards to capture Pickmon. The mechanic closely resembles Palworld's capture system.

The trailer also shows players riding motorbikes and gliders while exploring the world. But the creature designs have drawn the most criticism.

Many creatures look like they’re inspired by Pokémon and Palworld. The trailer features creatures with an uncanny resemblance to Pikachu and Mamorest from Palworld. One character looks like Roadhog from Overwatch, while another appears similar to Zero Two from the popular anime Darling in the Franxx.

Because of these similarities, the trailer quickly sparked criticism across social media.

Gamers Call Out Similarities in Pickmon Trailer

On X, one gamer wrote, “this genuinely feels like it was created for the sole purpose of ragebaiting Nintendo.” Another fan claimed, “That is Link running with Pikachu, and running past so many pokemon/palworld creatures fused together. I wish I was joking but it looks like they just took Palworld and changed it. It is like the meme 'copy my homework but change it to make it not look like your copying me'.”

Among the criticism, some gamers were willing to give the game a chance. One of them wrote, “I was not expecting something good. This actually looks good.”

Pickmon is currently listed on Steam, but its release date has not yet been announced.
