Gamer Spends Two Months Building Kanto Replica in Pokemon's Minecraft-Like Game

While most players use sandbox titles to create houses, farms, or cities, one Pokémon fan decided to think bigger and build most of the Kanto region inside Pokopia.

According to a post on Reddit by a user named u/starguy13, they have been working on the project since the launch of Pokopia and are trying to create a 1-to-1 recreation of the Kanto region from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Kanto remains one of the most recognizable regions in gaming, serving as the setting of the first-generation Pokémon games and introducing millions of players to the franchise.

The build includes most of the region's buildings and routes that are instantly recognizable to fans. The attention to detail extends beyond the exterior design, with highly detailed interiors of various buildings across the region.

They have been updating the Pokopia community regularly while providing screenshots of the progress. The accomplishment is noteworthy as the game is barely three months old as of right now, and only a few projects have been attempted on this scale.

A lot of gamers have tried recreating parts of Kanto or builds from other games, such as Prism Tower from X and Y, towns from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, or even the restored version of the Pewter Museum.

Kanto Region: What Fits and What Doesn't

The user claims that due to an impatient measurement error early on, there were a few adjustments to the build as it was started in an "unideal spot."

With the game fairly new, there were questions about whether Pokopia can actually fit the entire region in the game, to which Starguy13 said:

"With the loss of routes 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 24, and 25; losing most of routes 8, 10, 12, and 17; having to shrink Cerulean, Celadon, and Fuchsia Cities; AND having to fudge the spatial relationships of the locations a bit… yes, it can be done."

To showcase the interiors, they have shared screenshots from inside Professor Oak's Lab and of Mt. Moon, allowing for full exploration. However, the infamous Diglett Cave is not the same and is a regular underground tunnel.

As the user continues to build the region, the extra space gained due to the location has allowed them to build New Bark Town, the starting town of the Johto region, and Route 29, which connects the town with the second generation of the Pokémon world.

Kanto, however, holds a special place in the hearts of every Pokémon fan, being the starter region of the first generation of the series. With locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, and more, that were explored by millions of gamers.

Despite the cutbacks, this build remains one of the most ambitious projects created in Pokopia, serving as both a throwback and a tribute to the region where most people started their Pokémon journey.
