Capcom Removes Dragon’s Dogma 2 Microtransactions Ahead of Expansion

Dragon's Dogma 2 launched in 2024 with so many expectations for its ambitious RPG system. However, its day-one microtransactions quickly became the major talking point rather than the mechanics.

More than two years later, Capcom is finally removing most of those paid shortcuts. The franchise is now preparing for its next chapter.

Capcom has announced that a large portion of the game’s paid DLC will be removed from digital storefronts on June 25, 2026. The decision comes as the publisher continues development on additional content and prepares future title updates tied to Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen.

The delisted products include:

  • New Journey Pack
  • Harpysnare Smoke Beacons
  • Heartfelt Pendant
  • Ambivalent Rift Incense
  • Makeshift Gaol Key
  • Art of Metamorphosis
  • Portcrystal
  • Wakestone
  • Multiple Rift Crystal Packs

These items were mainly sold separately for real money. However, they could also be earned through normal gameplay, making it more of a convenience option than truly exclusive material.

The distinction of these packs was the centre of the controversy when Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched in March 2024. As per the players, these convenience items actually interacted with core systems such as fast travel, character customization, Pawn management, and revival mechanics.

The backlash started to grow seriously, even though none of the items were locked behind absolute paywalls.

Capcom also clarified that players who already own any of the affected DLC will retain access after sales end. The company is only removing the option to purchase them going forward.

Alongside the storefront cleanup, there has been another surprise for the fans. The digital version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 will receive a permanent price reduction. This offer spans across PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam. Exact pricing will vary by platform.

With Dark Arisen on the way, Capcom is cleaning up the store and improving the base game experience for new players.

Capcom Is Also Delisting the Deluxe Edition Ahead of Dark Arisen

The removal of microtransactions is not the only major change coming to Dragon’s Dogma 2 this month. Capcom has also confirmed that the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition will be permanently discontinued beginning June 25, 2026.

As per the publisher, this decision comes after keeping in mind the development of additional content and various adjustments planned for upcoming title updates. However, existing owners of the Deluxe Edition will continue to have access to their purchases even after the delisting takes effect.

Once the changes go live, only a handful of supplemental products will remain available alongside the standard edition of the game. These include the Explorer’s Camping Kit and the Dragon’s Dogma Music & Sound Collection.
