Call of Duty Announces Black Ops Royale Mode for Warzone

Mar 3, 2026, 4:08 PM CUT

A major update is coming to Call of Duty Warzone, and it's not another cosmetic bundle. Activision is bringing a fan-favorite experience back to the battle royale.

It is inspired by the fan-favourite, Blackout mode in Black Ops 4. The game mode is set to release on March 13, 2026.

This new experience is set to bridge the gap between classic survival gameplay and modern Warzone mechanics. In the official blog by Activision, devs explained the mode will have no Loadouts, no Gulag, and no Buy Stations.

It takes place in the ‘Avalon’ map, which is a high-tech modern city originally introduced in Black Ops 7. 100 players with wingsuits on get divided into 25 squads of four and have to scavenge their way to victory.

The players initially get a wingsuit, two plates of attached armour, a Jäger 45 pistol, and a knife.

The mode will come with the weapon archetypes of Black Ops 7, with five-attachment upgrade paths and fixed build archetypes. Base ground loot can be turned from ‘Common’ to ‘Legendary’ loot. How will you do it? By hunting ‘Attachment Kits’. There will also be an ‘Exotic’ weapon per match! Which will include up to eight attachments.

But That's Not All The Differences From Classic Warzone

The mode adapts the original Call of Duty BR Perk system with a twist. There will be no fixed slots; rather, just five consumable boosts that you can activate when the situation demands it. Some examples include ‘Iron Lungs’, which increases your breathing time underwater, and ‘Paranoia’, which marks the direction of the opponent and which way they are facing.

Grappling Hook, Sensor Dart, RC-XD, and Trauma Kit are some of the equipment that will remind you of Black Ops 7, including Cymbal Monkey, which was initially used in Blackout mode to lure in the zombies.

While the Gulag is gone, players aren't necessarily out. Instead, redeployment can be achieved by scavenging ‘Redeploy Tokens’ or by capturing ‘Redeployment Towers’ on the map.

Black Ops Royale aims to deliver a high-stakes, nostalgic, and unpredictable battle royale experience.
