Blizzard President Teases Overwatch Live-Action Plans in Latest Report

An Overwatch movie could be on the horizon. Blizzard's new president, Johana Faries, told Variety that expanding into Hollywood is a 'big part' of the company's future. She teased that every Blizzard property is ready for the big screen.

“How we continue to engage Hollywood or film and TV in bigger ways is going to be, in the near term, probably a big part of that recipe,” Faries said. “We also play in music. We also play in non-traditional spaces, beyond gaming, certainly.”

And she's not wrong. Blizzard already had a Warcraft movie adaptation release across the world. And while there were mixed results, their library of games includes the likes of Overwatch, Diablo, and Starcraft.

“I would confidently say that every one of our IPs could be some of the greatest linear media experiences that the world could experience. So more to come on the specifics.”

But Faries wasn’t the only Blizzard Entertainment official who hinted at the plan. Walter Kong, the general manager of Overwatch, aligned with the president’s plan.

“It’s something that we see signaled to us very consistently,” Kong acknowledged, reflecting on the fans’ requests on their cinematic trailers. “So whenever we put out any type of lore, including a cinematic thesis, there is a very common expression of, I wish we could have more of this, I wish that we could enjoy these stories.”

As the franchise's general manager, Kong acknowledged these fan requests as a clear signal for future opportunities. The team has already delivered on the game. But the company can still attract a bigger group of fans and gamers through a “broader franchise experience.”

If it’s executed correctly, an Overwatch series could entertain the fans with geopolitical tension, superhero-style action, and character-driven arcs. And the Overwatch 2 director agrees. Aaron Keller spoke about it in 2025, where he had something similar to Arcane (the League of Legends adaptation) in mind.
