Best survival-boosting potions in Minecraft and how to brew them [Opinion]

Potions are one of Minecraft's most useful survival tools. While beginners don't usually need to brew them, experienced users often rely on potions to survive boss fights, dangerous expeditions, and unexpected encounters with hostile mobs.

A single Potion of Healing or Fire Resistance can be the difference between escaping with valuable loot and losing hours of progress.

According to Minecraft Wiki, brewing requires a Brewing Stand, Blaze Powder for fuel, and a Water Bottle, with most recipes using an Awkward Potion as their base.

Here are some of the best potions to keep in your inventory if survival is your top priority.

Healing

The Potion of Healing provides an instant health boost to users and is an immediate remedy for those who see their hearts drop to a dangerous level.

Few things are worse than seeing your health drop to half a heart during a boss fight or raid. A Potion of Healing can get you out of trouble instantly.

Minecraft Wiki mentions using an Awkward Potion and a Glistering Melon to brew a Potion of Healing, which can be upgraded to Level II with Glowstone.

Regeneration

Unlike the Potion of Healing, which restores health instantly, the Potion of Regeneration gradually replenishes your hearts over time.

This makes it especially useful during raids, long expeditions, and boss fights against the Ender Dragon or the Wither, where sustained healing can make a big difference.

You need an Awkward Potion and a Ghast Tear to brew the Potion of Regeneration, with the ability to upgrade it through Redstone and Glowstone.

Strength

Easily the best non-healing potion in Minecraft, the Potion of Strength increases your melee damage significantly, allowing you to dominate raids, boss fights, and hostile mobs with ease.

To brew the Potion of Strength, you need an Awkward Potion and Blaze Powder, and it is essential when going to the Nether.

Fire Resistance

While not as powerful as the potions above, the Potion of Fire Resistance is almost a necessity when wandering the Nether. The Potion of Fire Resistance makes you immune to anything that resembles fire, such as lava, fireballs, and fire hazards in the Minecraft biome.

You need a Awkward Potion and Magma Cream to brew a Potion of Fire Resistance, which most experienced Minecraft users would not dare enter the Nether without.

Water Breathing

Aquatic biomes warrant plenty of adventures below the surface and underwater, making the Potion of Water Breathing important for survival.

This potion makes you immune to the possibility of drowning during your underwater expeditions and is perfect for exploring underwater structures for rare loot.

You need an Awkward Potion and a Pufferfish to brew a Potion of Water Breathing, and you should keep a few in your inventory, as you may find yourself in trouble if the activated potion runs out while you are stuck underwater.

Slow Falling

From newbies to experienced Minecraft users, everyone has fallen from great heights in their biomes. Fall damage is lethal, and almost every user has a story about how close they came to learning that firsthand, or perhaps experienced it.

An Awkward Potion and a Phantom Membrane are required to make a Potion of Slow Falling.

The best use of the Potion of Slow Falling is when fighting the Ender Dragon, as it can knock you away. This helps prevent fall damage from its attacks.

Invisibility

The best way to survive is to avoid fights entirely. And the best way to avoid fights is to evade everyone's sight in Minecraft. The Potion of Invisibility is very useful in PvP gameplay and is handy to keep in your inventory, especially while traversing hostile territories.

You need a Night Vision Potion and a Fermented Spider Eye to brew a Potion of Invisibility, which helps add stealth to your capabilities in the Minecraft world.

Swiftness

Another way to avoid fights altogether is by outrunning hostile mobs and opponents. The Potion of Swiftness is your solution for that purpose.

You just need an Awkward Potion and Sugar to brew a Potion of Swiftness, which increases your speed, helps you cover long distances, and is also useful for isolating mobs during raids.

Night Vision

Darkness is not an ally in the Minecraft world, with great dangers lurking within it. However, darkness can become your friend with the Potion of Night Vision.

To brew a Potion of Night Vision, you need an Awkward Potion and a Golden Carrot. This potion lets you see clearly underwater, at night, in dark caves, and while exploring unlit underground areas.

Turtle Master

Imagine if you had a powerful shield attached to your body. The Potion of the Turtle Master does just that. You become highly resistant to damage with the Potion of the Turtle Master, but it also makes you slower than normal, essentially adding the effect of a Turtle Shell being attached to your character.

You need an Awkward Potion and a Turtle Shell to brew this potion, which can be upgraded through Redstone and Glowstone.
