Barbie Rewind Launches Days Before GTA VI, Inspiring Barbenheimer 2 Memes

Atari announced the release date of Digital Eclipse's Barbie Rewind during Summer Game Fest. The announcement quickly attracted attention for an unexpected reason.

With Barbie Rewind scheduled to launch on November 12, 2026, exactly one week before GTA VI, fans have already started comparing the situation to gaming's own "Barbenheimer 2." The timing is particularly notable because many publishers have avoided Rockstar Games' launch window.

Barbie Rewind is a retro collection featuring 16 Barbie games released between 1991 and 2007, along with a new DreamHouse mode. The collection will launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC for $29.99 and a Deluxe version at $59.99.

The announcement quickly sparked discussion across social media, with many fans joking that GTA VI had finally found competition in November.

This situation takes us back to 2023. At that time, the Barbie movie clashed with another hugely anticipated project, Oppenheimer, giving birth to the Barbenheimer meme.

The comparison has resonated because of the contrast between the two games. GTA VI is expected to be one of the biggest releases in gaming history, while Barbie Rewind focuses on nostalgia, retro games, and DreamHouse customization.

There is no certainty about Barbie Rewind's performance against GTA VI. But it has certainly put itself in a spotlight, which other AAA games could not do.

Fans Turn Barbie Rewind Into GTA VI's "Biggest Rival"

The fan reactions have been almost entirely tongue-in-cheek. They are not treating Barbie Rewind like any other gaming release. Instead, they have crowned it GTA VI's biggest threat. Here's what they are saying about this "rivalry":

One fan on X said, "rockstar survived decades of competition and the one thing that might give them pause is barbie."

Some fans even decided what to play in November, saying, "WE ARE PLAYING BARBIE REWIND INSTEAD OF GTA 6."

Another fan said, "Barbie Rewind dropping in the same November launch window as GTA 6 is actually insane competition."

There seem to be serious players for Barbie Rewind too, as one fan said, "I hope I can finish Barbie before GTA 6 drops."

Behind all the fun and sarcasm, nobody genuinely expects Barbie Rewind to challenge GTA VI. But the contrast between the two games is exactly why the meme has taken off.
