Bad News for PC Gamers: Nvidia Confirms Graphics Card Shortage Will Last Through 2026

Mar 1, 2026, 5:33 PM CUT

NVIDIA has officially warned investors and consumers that the current shortage of gaming GPUs is expected to persist through the end of fiscal year 2026.

Prices are expected to skyrocket during the upcoming quarters due to a shortage of GPUs. During the company's earnings call with financial analysts and investors, CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, set the record straight.

"As much as we would love to have more supply, we do believe for a couple of quarters it is going to be very tight," said Jensen Huang.

Gaming revenue for fiscal Q4 2026 was up 47% over Q4 2025, but the revenue for the segment dropped by 13% when compared to Q3 2026, likely due to the shrinking memory stock over the last few months.

“If things improve by the end of the year, there is an opportunity to think about what that is from a year-over-year growth, but it is still too early for us to know at this time. We will get back to you as soon as we can,” added the CEO.

However, Huang wasn't the only one highlighting the crisis. NVIDIA’s CFO Colette Kress added: “We expect supply constraints to be a headwind to gaming in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 and beyond.”

So What’s at the Root of the Gaming Hardware Crisis?

The real reason behind the extended shortage is a shift in Nvidia's focus from building gaming GPUs to AI GPUs and a global deficit in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and GDDR7 modules.

Reports indicate that Nvidia has delayed the rollout of specific gaming chips to prioritise its lucrative AI data centre business.

An IGN report revealed that Mat Piscatella, Senior Director and Video Game Industry Advisor at Circana, said that hope is not on the horizon.

"given how quickly things are changing and evolving when it comes to component pricing and availability, setting firm expectations would be, in all honesty, a bit of a silly thing to do," said Piscatella.

So what's your take on this whole situation? Let us know in the comments.
