Shader stutters and load times on AMD RDNA GPUs can now be reduced by up to 95% thanks to Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery system.
According to Microsoft Dev Blogs, the feature has become generally available on the XBOX PC App, with Microsoft partnering with AMD to expand support across GPUs ranging from RDNA 1 to RDNA 4.
As a result, players using modern AMD graphics cards will be able to compile shaders and load titles much faster.
Microsoft and AMD used Forza Horizon 6 to test the game's loading time. For context, the title's highest requirements mention the AMD RX 6700 XT as the appropriate GPU.
This goes to show how graphically demanding the game can be.
With the Advanced Shader Delivery feature enabled, Forza Horizon 6 booted up in about 4 seconds, which is much faster than the previous 1.5 minutes. The test was done on an AMD Radeon RX 7600 GPU coupled with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800 CPU.
This isn't the only game that supports the new feature. Popular titles such as Control, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Microsoft Flight Simulator are just a few of the many that benefit from the system.
To use Advanced Shader Delivery, players first need a GPU that uses RDNA 1 through 4. They also need the latest XBOX Gaming Services version along with Windows 11.
With the ASD in place, gaming can become a better visual experience. This is especially true for immersive single-player titles.
Games to Try With the New Microsoft and AMD Feature
As mentioned earlier, several popular titles support Advanced Shader Delivery. Forza Horizon 6 is one of the newest games to support the system.
If you like high-octane racing with modern and retro classic cars, the game is the choice for you. Its visuals are charming, and the cars are as accurate as possible to their real-life versions.
If racing is not your genre, you can dive into horror with games like Silent Hill F or Resident Evil 3. Both games are popular among horror fans for their immersive and scary atmosphere.
Apart from that, Hogwarts Legacy is also an appropriate choice. The game is famously graphically demanding. With ASD, it may load faster and function better in terms of its visuals.
Finally, the co-op game Grounded 2 also supports ASD, where you play as shrunken children who must fight bugs in somebody's backyard. It's a title that can be played with friends, and improved graphics are a big plus.
