Activision has slowly begun phasing out support for Call of Duty: Warzone for last-generation consoles such as Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's XBOX One.
In the latest Warzone update, Activision explained this reduction.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches this fall on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and supported PC platforms, with the integration of Call of Duty: Warzone coming in Season 1. Starting June 4, we will begin reducing the services offered for Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and XBOX One, with support for the game on these platforms coming to an end later this year."
From June 4, Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be on the respective stores, which means new users will not be able to download the game. The in-game store will be removed on June 25, with the Battle Pass remaining, enabling users to unlock the free tiers by leveling up.
Season 6 will be Call of Duty: Warzone's last one for PS4 and XBOX One users. COD Points can be redeemed for content within Call of Duty: Warzone on PS4 and XBOX One. Meanwhile, COD Points on accounts on unsupported platforms are accessible on supported platforms.
Basically, the current-generation consoles will allow users to spend their unspent COD Points on their accounts, since the Points are tied to accounts, not consoles.
All other Call of Duty titles can still be played on PS4 and XBOX One.
Activision Subsidiary Announces Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Video game developers Infinity Ward, a wholly owned subsidiary of giant Activision, have announced the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4.
The game is set for a 2026 release and will be launched on the 23rd of October across PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Modern Warfare 4 storyline is set in Eastern Asia as war breaks out in the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea on the offensive. The game's story will bring the long-running feud to a breaking point and hint at a move towards culmination slowly.
In line with the above announcement, Modern Warfare 4 will be Call of Duty's first title to not support PlayStation 4 and XBOX One consoles.
With the much-loved DMZ game mode making a return, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 could become a new yardstick for premium AAA games.
