A Huge Counter-Strike Update Just Changed the Way You Reload

Counter-Strike 2 has flipped the tables. The reloading mechanic in place for over two decades has been completely overhauled, making players actively change their strategies!

As per the new update, “Reloading has been refactored to encourage more careful consideration of the use of ammo. When you reload a magazine-fed weapon, all remaining ammo in the magazine is discarded and a new, full magazine is taken from the reserves.”

Depending on the weapon, the reserve ammunition will appear as magazines, not individual ammo counts. The fill level of the equipped weapon will appear directly below the ammunition count. The developers also tuned the reserve magazine count for each weapon.

The fans didn’t really love this update. For the past three decades, the ammunition count remained the same, regardless of the reload timing. But now, players have to be much more careful with their ammo and reloads.

Soon after the update went live on Steam, gamers began to react, and the post received only around 34% approvals. But gameplay isn’t the only aspect of Counter-Strike 2 that’s changing with the new update.

This Update Has Massive Implications on Competitive Play

Ever since the game originally released, reloading was simple. The ammo left in your magazine would be replenished to the exact number. However, even if you fire once and reload now, it will take away an entire magazine!

In pro-play, this makes the biggest difference, especially since the game has never had such a mechanic. While it does make things realistic, pros will have trouble getting used to it in the long run.

With the Austin Major just around the corner in June, they have some time before going into a big tournament with the changed mechanics.

What do you think of the updates? Will the reloads actually affect your gameplay experience?
